Dog training type
Emily has been working with our dog Pepper since she was a puppy. We recently hired Emily again to train Pepper now that she's in adolescence. We hired another dog trainer and weren't in love with his style. On the other hand, we really love Emily's approach to dog behavior. She breaks down the reasons why dogs may do things, gives us amazing tools to manage each step, and keeps it fun. We wouldn't have been able to get through Pepper's puppy phase without Emily and I am certain I will say the same once we get on the other side of adolescence. She's been a great resource and we're so glad we found her on Thumbtack!Mar 11, 2019Verified
My puppy just loves Emily and is responding quite well to the training- but most importantly she’s training me on how to continue our work to keep the number of sessions at max value while adhering to the budget we set forth together. On a personal level she is a delight to be around and really has a special connection with my dog.Dec 22, 2017Verified
Emily is a thoughtful, knowledgable and overall superb trainer. In addition, she is excellent resource for all issues and needs related to puppies and dogs in general. She is a pure joy to work with and i highly recommend Mindful Paw.Mar 10, 2018
Emily is one of the most passionate and knowledgeable dog trainers I have ever met. I contracted her when I adopted a rescue with severe separation anxiety and who never had any formal training. Within 6 weeks my pup mastered basic commands, and we were well on our way to overcoming his separation anxiety. I would recommend Emily without hesitation to anyone looking for expert help!Mar 17, 2017
I can’t recommend Emily enough. We rescued our three-year-old dog Kiki around eight months ago from what we can only imagine was an absolutely horrific situation. Needless to say Kiki had a number of different things that she was uncomfortable with. Emily was not only incredibly empathetic, but from day one showed Kiki unconditional love and support. Over a number of months, she worked with us and Kiki at a pace that Kiki was comfortable with in order to help her overcome her fears, and learn to trust people. She was not only incredible with Kiki, but incredible with us, she’s an incredible teacher and gave us all the tools that we needed to be successful in training Kiki in between our sessions. Throughout this process and as we have gone to find dog walkers, vets, or any person that will interact with Kiki we always say we hope they’re like Emily. She is truly someone that understands dogs and what they need, as well people to work with them in order to help them train their dogs. Thank you so much for all that you do, Emily!Jun 30, 2018
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?A detailed summary email, along with discussed resources, is included in my price. This let's you be present, learning, and asking questions during our session rather than taking notes. I also offer a concierge service for $250/month. This gives you unlimited access to me by phone, email, and text as questions come up, or you want to check in about a behavior you're working on. People who select this option reliably require fewer sessions in the long run.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I start with a free 20-minute phone consultation. I'll ask questions about your dog's behavior and describe what a training plan would look like, and you can ask me any questions you may have. I'll send you my intake form and contract (all done online - super easy) and we'll schedule a time for me to come to your home for an initial session where we'll talk through your needs and priorities. We'll have an in-depth discussion about your dog's behavior, and make recommendations that you can begin implementing immediately. You'll receive a detailed follow-up email with a custom training plan and resources after our session. From here, you can either do the training on your own, do the training along side me so you can gain confidence/skill to continue the training, or have me do the training for you. Either way, expect an educational experience for both you and your dog(s)!
