About
I try to be as prepared as possible prior to every job, often asking questions up until the last moment before leaving home. At events, I tend to take a LOT of photos so as to give clients as many choices as possible when it comes time to actually use the photos. I make every attempt to get photographs to my clients as quickly and as seamlessly as possible, and I am always of good nature, from first contact until the delivery of the photos.
Cliché though it might seem, I most enjoy meeting the people I work with. The San Francisco area boasts such a diverse populace in background, personalities and interests that it's a pleasure meeting and chatting with them. As a relative newcomer to the Bay Area, it's also interesting to meet those who are lifelong residents of the city, as well as to learn how non-native San Franciscans came to live here.

I highly recommend Patrick Power! I needed a professional portrait for a legal job application, and I hadn't had one taken in over 20 years. I wanted it to be professional, but also unique. I wasn't sure how to find a photographer, so I just put out a bid on thumbtack. Patrick responded very quickly and with a very reasonable price. I had resigned myself to just getting a studio portrait with a neutral background, but Patrick had the idea of meeting at City Hall to take the photo. I was very nervous and self-conscious about the process. I don't like having my picture taken and I am not very photogenic. It helped that City Hall was full of other photographers taking pictures of brides, grooms, and other people like me, so I didn't really stand out. I had a problem and ended up being pretty late to our meeting, but Patrick was very nice about it. I was sweating like crazy in my suit, but he did a good job of putting me at ease and letting me rest and cool down for a little bit white while he staked out spots to take the photo. He talked with me casually about what I was looking for in the photo, but we also made small talk about our lives and work, so that soon I felt very comfortable with him. As a result, I looked very natural in the photo. Patrick took a lot of shots, and several of them were quite good. I needed the work done on very short notice, including a print. I made the bid on a Sunday, we did the photo shoot on Monday, and I had the print by Tuesday morning. I love the photo, and my family and friends do too. Everyone agreed that not just my appearance, but also my personality comes through in the photo. I will definitely call Patrick again if I need another photo taken in the future!

As a nonprofit, we usually search for a photographer for each individual event. We never have consistency because our timing and budget can be hard to work with. We hired Patrick to redo our staff page and he has turned into a photographer we use for everything! He has worked our Annual Bay Area Holiday Party and is now our photographer for our Martin Luther King Day event. We will keep using him in the future!
He provides great pictures and his personality, is easy to work with and does a lot for you in the process. We highly recommend him!

Working with Patrick was FANTASTIC. From the initial call to onsite work, Patrick was very responsive. He is also very professional and really engaging when immersed in his work. This event in particular included delegates from various countries and Patrick surely had their attention during the photo shooting--they were all smiles with his light jokes that further showed how personable he is. Patrick was able to handle any last changes and meet other demands without hesitation. His product is top notch and we were pleased to have him provide his photography services for our event. Patrick delivered exactly what we were looking for; professional pictures of our business conference. He is a pleasure to work with. He arrived on time, and with some guidance from us, went to work. He knows what needs to be done. He provided the images a few days later. We are thrilled with the work and have many good shots we can use. We would like to use him again.

From the get go, I really appreciated the responsiveness and detail-orientation of Patrick. We were in SF for only a few days and didn't know where the best location for a shoot would be. He gave detailed suggestions on where we could take the photos and also made sure we could work together within schedule.
Meeting him and working with him was lovely. He put us at ease and made sure he got the best from us. I'm so pleased with how the photos turned out. They were just as I'd hoped they would be.
The selection process and the back and forth was also super easy. He was flexible with payment options and gave us lots of great shots to choose from.
Really enjoyed working with Patrick and highly recommended.
Thank you, Patrick!

Thanks so much Jah! It was a pleasure to meet you and Beth and Joe, and to chat a bit along the way. I'm glad the weather cooperated and we were able to get photos with which you were pleased.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My prices vary depending upon the service I provide... I am most amenable to working with my clients' budgets provided I am paid fairly for the work that is asked/expected of me.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I am pretty flexible with how I work with new clients. Depending upon the type of work I've been hired to do, I might require a deposit. Typically, if I am hired to photograph a conference or similar event that won't happen for several months, I will request a deposit, with final payment expected either the day of the event or upon delivery of the final images.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My university degree is in Visual Communications Technology, which trained me more as a technician and/or problem solver. It was during a ten-year stint as the supervisor of a photographics unit that I began to explore photography from a creative standpoint, inspired by Chicago portrait photographer Marc Hauser and the late lighting wizard, Dean Collins.
