I am a 3rd degree BJJ Black Belt. I started training in 1997 at AKA under Frank Shamrock. I’ve been fortunate to work with world class martial artist, wrestling and BJJ coaches.
I am the founder of one of the largest gym chains in the Bay Area. I have personally coached hundreds of men, women and children. Our students range from world class professional athletes to hobbyists that just want learn, have fun and get in shape.
I've missed teaching since we've moved to the El Dorado Hills/Cameron Park area and now run our gyms remotely. I have a passion for introducing beginners to safe, fun and fulfilling high quality martial arts and fitness training.
Things are opening back up so I’ve begun training a small select group of people in the area. Open to considering men, women and kids of all age groups and skill levels.
My wife is a purple belt looking for female partners. We also have three young sons that we plan to train more consistently soon.
I guarantee very beginner friendly training with world class instruction. We have a full private gym at our home.

For the past two decades Coach Rudy has trained under some of the best martial artist of all time. He also happens to be both intelligent and kind.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity. Anyone would be lucky to train with him. If you’re at all interested in learning grappling, BJJ, self defense or just getting in shape this is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Smash is far and away the best gym I’ve ever been to and has ruined me for other gyms. It would be hard to overstate the impact that coach Rudy, his family, the other instructors, and the lifelong friends I made through Smash have had on me. Theirs is a welcoming and positive community that does not take itself too seriously or get caught up in the nonsense I’ve seen from other institutions.
The instruction at Smash is top notch. While I spent most of my time on jiu jitsu, I have taken almost every type of class they offer. Every instructor knows their stuff and is super friendly and approachable, regardless of your skill level. If you want to learn self defense or fitness, there is no better place to do it.
If you’re interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Smash is recognized and well respected in the BJJ world. Coach Rudy is excellent at distilling his vast knowledge in ways that are fun to learn and effective to employ either in competition or self defense. In my experience, you won’t find a better or more entertaining instructor.

Me and my daughter both train with Coach Rudy and we both love it! We’ve trained with many coaches and trainers over the years and he is by far the best. The lessons are beginner friendly and very fun. I very much appreciate how he is instilling respectfulness and responsibility in the kids as they learn and grow these skills. Myself and my daughter both plan on training with coach Rudy for many years and hopefully one day making it to black belt with his coaching.

Value (noun) - relative worth of a good or service.
You know the old saying, “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.” The truth is, you would know the value of training jiujitsu under Rudy Sanchez from day one - I certainly did.
I walked into Smash Gyms planning to take advantage of their free trial week, and become a years-long member thanks to Rudy Sanchez. Rudy was one of my head jiujitsu instructors on my journey from a spazzy white belt all the way to black belt, and I would be training under him still if I had not moved our of state.
Throughout the years, I have been fortunate enough to visit and train at over a hundred different jiu jitsu gyms and I can honestly say that the jiujitsu at Smash Gyms under Rudy Sanchez is top tier. His high level white belts take on blues and purples from other gyms. And we are not talking about some sandbagging 5-year white belts. These are folks who’ve been training for a year or less. The system here is effective, efficient, and designed with longevity in mind.
Rudy’s value as an instructor goes beyond his ability to grow his students into black belts. Sure, if you want to learn the most high percentage moves that allow you to quickly and efficiently dominate and submit your opponents, he is your coach. But so much more than a set of techniques, his value is his ability to transfer that knowledge, to make learning fun, to create an atmosphere that allows people to train safely, to create a community.
Bottom line is, Rudy has the ability to create strong and positive relationships, and he can back that up with highly effective jiujitsu. If you have the chance to learn from Rudy Sanchez, you will see the value from day one.
