I am a working musician with years of experience in performing, writing, and recording. I offer instruction in electric, acoustic, rhythm, lead, and slide guitar. Styles include rock, pop, blues, country, and more. Lessons are available at our Solana Beach and San Diego studios.
I am approved to work in the San Diego Unified School District and the Del Mar Union School District. I have taught group guitar classes in both districts.
I was voted Guitar Player of the Year for 1996 by the California Country Music Association San Diego Chapter.

"I visited the Norwood Music Studios southern location at their studio in San Diego, CA. Virginia's husband, Joe Norwood is quite an accomplished guitarist and my favored guitar instructor.
I have been playing guitar for years and have only progressed to a decent level. Under instruction of Joe Norwood, a new door of achievement has been tapped into.
Joe as an instructor teaches what other guitar instructors don't. ( How to play the guitar as an extension of your body.) A new world has opened up for me.
I strongly recommend Joe as an instructor for all levels of guitar playing. Since my six months of studying with Joe, I have been able to work my fingers for lead work which has improved under Joe's instruction. He offers what many other past guitar teachers of mine have not.
I highly recommend Norwood Studios for guitar and other music instruction!!! "

Joe is a great guy who knows the guitar inside and out. He is a skilled player who also has the gift of teaching the guitar. He has many years of experience and has won many musical awards for his skillfull chops and playing. He also has a great ear for music gear and tone. His technical skills are also exceptional. He helped me wire up my pedalboard and also did some work on some of my guitars and what really impressed me was how he went the extra mile and took his time in meeting my needs.
His knowledge of the guitar goes way beyond playing and teaching it. I had a guitar that I spent hundreds of dollars on trying to get it to sound the way I wanted it too. Joe recommended a set of Bill Lawrence pick ups in it and I went ahead and had Joe install those pick ups in that guitar and now it sounds better then ever. It was the perfect fit for that guitar. What I took years to try and fix Joe fixed it in one meeting with him. If you are looking for guitar lesson's or singing lesson's or maybe you just need help getting a better tone out of your guitar or you need some technical
work done on your guitar Norwood studios is the place where you can rest assured you will be in good hands with someone who has years of knowledge and experience and will meet your needs.

Joe is the best teacher, musician and human being that could possibly be given to a fellow student. when I started I had no timing, Joe worked magic and patience and before I new it I was actually playing!! Playing and tapping with the beat.. If you really want to learn to play guitar, Joe is your man..
