He sent a guy back to grind the concrete mortar down to be level who did not artive with the required Hepa vacuum filter and disposal bag. He had to use my Hepa vacuum and filter and bag at the cost of $70 out of my pocket. He did not bring any tool to grind down the corners and had to use my Dremel with a carbide attachment.
He did not trowel the thinset with straight lines but instead wavy lines which is a violation of the Tile Council of North America and the manufacturer’s, Laticrete, instructions, and will cause poor adhesion of the tile to the mortar bed. I had to remind him of proper trowel technique.
He did not use the Rubi hand tool to tighten the Rubi Delta Leveling wedges and clips. This resulted in significant lippage between the tiles.
He did not clean the grout joints of thinset before he laid the next piece of tile per 2 manufacturer’s, Rubi and Laticrete, instructions which resulted in thinset between the grout joints. The grout joints are for grout not thinset. Also, this made it difficult to remove the Rubi clips because many were cemented in place and did not break off as they should the next day.
We asked him not to complete the job. We spent 1-1/2 days removing dried thinset and cleaning the sloppy grout joints. We grouted the floor ourselves because it was not worth it to have him complete another step sloppily. Our cost deduct was only $500. We should receive a larger credit back.
He set the Schluter metal step edging crooked with 1/4” air gap at the left side and the thinset not cleaned off on the right side. He should have added more thinset to the vertical tile on the left side.
I contacted him via text and email to correct these errors, but he has not responded.
