Dave's an excellent teacher. I've been playing for over ten years and I feel like I've advanced more in the past month with Dave than all of last year.Feb 3, 2016VerifiedDave Cipriani (ONLINE) Guitar Lessons's reply
It was a pleasure to teach Ben. It was done entirely on Skype, so we have still never physically met!
I am so happy with Dave, he made a good match with my son, he's on time, prepared and my son enjoy his lessons. I'm impressed because I hear my son playing the guitar and he asks me for my favorite song and I believed he's going to play it very soon.Mar 23, 2015Verified

I've only had one lesson with Dave so far, however that said - I felt that it was such a good lesson, his communication was so excellent, and his lesson was easy to understand as well as his willingness to work with me (I come from violin and cello, so thumb muscle memory and some other things I have to unlearn, and he was patient with that) on certain things that I had to go ahead and place a review on here. He laid out the lesson very well and I felt as an absolute beginner that was just getting into it, that I learned a lot just in that 45 minutes. He gave detailed notes that I could easily follow while practicing and made sure to explain everything and answer all my questions. He was punctual on time, which I appreciated, and even when he thought he might be running a little late, he texted me to let me know that he might be. Considering his background and the variety of music that he has in his repertoire I really appreciate the style and professionalism that he's going to bring to our lessons. I sought him out specifically over everyone else because of this very fact as that speaks to me, as someone with a music background, of someone that is flexible and willing to not only teach but still learn themselves. I find that invaluable in a teacher and appreciate that.Nov 11, 2018Verified
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I usually evaluated what they are interested in learning, making a list of songs they would like to learn. Most beginner guitar students start the same, but we can quickly expand into pieces or songs that are closer to the student's goals.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?BA in Classical Guitar from St. Mary's College of Md 1994, English minor MFA in World Music on Guitar from California Institute of the Arts, 2010 And Lots of gigs & recording!
- What types of customers have you worked with?It is extremely varied. I have transcribed rock, jazz, blues, fingerstyle, country, and African music solos and songs. I also teach Indian music both on instrument and singing, and have studied with several masters of this style. Because I studied music in India I use rhythm concepts from Indian music most of the time even for basic things, like playing funk guitar a la James Brown, a riff from the Cure or solo lines from anywhere. I am often working with my advanced students on improvisation that use rhythmic concepts from India and Africa, as well as Eastern European(Gypsy) and Middle Eastern countries. I can teach more unusual rhythms from around the world like 7/8, 9/8 and more I can work with unusual tunings as well: standard and dropped D, Open D or E, Open G or A. I play 20-string Indian slide guitar as well as 7 and 6 string guitar, so I teach slide guitar technique. But I enjoy teaching beginners as well! I have written arrangements of songs from recordings and music. I love it when students bring me music or books that I have never heard before and is off the beaten track or contemporary. I usually work with teaching meditative concepts to all my students based on 20+ years of meditation training. This helps with such a variety of issues, it is quite amazing to me! I've seen it help with tension problems, concentration and performance anxiety, memorization and more. Because I have worked through some tendinitis and overuse issues by training in Yoga, Pilates and Feldenkrais method, I often incorporate concepts from them to assist in alignment, strengthening and relaxation.
