Alex Withmory | Jazz Band, Drum Lessons

Introduction: Alex Withmory is a versatile drummer and percussionist based in Southern California. His abilities cover a variety of music styles and performances from intimate jazz clubs to energetic pop concerts. He grew up playing in classical orchestras in Lima, Peru. He later transitioned to playing jazz when he moved to Los Angeles where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Performance from California State University, Northridge. With more than fourteen years of experience in the music business, Alex participates in countless shows featuring various styles of music and musical languages including: gospel, rock, pop, hip hop, jazz, Latin, top 40’s hits, and reggae. He performa for private events, churches, weddings, big bands, numerous clubs, recording sessions, and he even played at Disneyland California Adventure with two different groups. He is also proficient in Latin music styles with Peruvian, Cuban, Brazilian, Colombian and Spanish rhythms. Some of his latest achievements are a Grammy Nomination for the album Tradiciones by the Afro Peruvian Jazz Orchestra, as well as touring with indie pop artist Kelechi ending with the San Francisco Pride Parade which had a recorded attendance of more than ten thousand people. In addition to being a consistently gigging musician, he also works as a private drum, piano, and guitar teacher. Alex is currently an educator at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, and runs percussion ensembles for the Harmony Project - a non-profit organization established in Los Angeles county.
