Introduction: Not only am I a graphics person with experience in computer Adobe programs and QuarkXPress, but I am also a fine artist with experience in drawing, watercolor, pen and ink and oils. I believe that a good graphic designer has an excellent background in drawing. It's essential to the final product. I also believe that knowing design and color is important. Education is a key factor in good graphic design. If I hire someone for the job, I want to know that he/she has the education as well as the talent to do the job. I also want to see a good portfolio of work. I also want to see a good attitude, one that is "do or die", someone who works best under pressure! And people, that is me!
I have a passion for drawing, which I believe is the foundation of graphics as well as fine art. I love to use the computer to do "darkroom" techniques on my photographs as well as rendering some awesome Photoshop compositions. I have a knack for creating brochures and booklets. These are challenging because you are dealing with structure, technical forms and control of outline. But I also love breaking the rules, stretching the limits of that structure and moving into the impossible. I've seen so many people who have tried to do it themselves only to get frustrated and give up, or worse, to settle for their unprofessional look. The public just has no idea what goes into a design. It's more than a computer program and an idea, it's design knowledge-something that is learned. Then add in desire and passion and that is where the talent comes in!
