After going through a rough divorce, I was faced with what felt impossible. As part of an informal parenting agreement, my options for where to live were limited. When I first walked into the apartment that my daughter and I would be calling home, I cried. The downsizing had been hard. We had to downsize from 3,500 square feet to 1,500. We had to part with treasured mementos, comfortable furniture, and so many familiar pieces of our lives.
This new space felt foreign, rough, and like it could never truly feel like home. I felt despair. I had already hired Dominique, but even then I wondered if the task was simply too large; perhaps impossible. Would I ever feel comfortable here? Would it ever feel like our home?
Dominique was confident. Too confident, I thought. Maybe even a little naive.
I was wrong.
The experience started off strong when she showed me a vision board based on our first conversations. I immediately felt heard and understood. I signed on the dotted line. When she completed my bedroom before the rest of the apartment, something unexpected happened: I was finally able to relax. She brought me peace after months of stress, uncertainty, and transition. The first night I walked into that room and slipped under the covers, I could literally feel the tension leaving my body.
And she wasn't done.
She transformed my modest kitchen, created a living room that looks like it came straight out of a design catalog, and designed a dining room that serves double duty as both my home office and an incredible space for board game nights with friends.
I am beyond thrilled with the result.
Dominique's only weakness is also her greatest strength: she pours herself completely into her projects. At least she did with mine.
