Introduction: I have developed my own curriculum unlike any others I have seen. This is based on my study with multiple advanced instructors. Students not only learn to play but they "understand" how music works which makes them "fluent" at it. Seeing people succeed and helping people expand their enjoyment for music by playing and to share my passion for music which can be contagious. I want to see you accomplish more than you can on your own. It is difficult to find the time and motivation, so I will help you to accomplish your goals.

Guitar Lessons

I am so lucky to have found Rick. I not only am learning songs, he is also teaching me the theory of music and how chords are formed. I am new to guitar, had my second lesson and can figure out most chords. He teaches the direction I'm interested in. I can't wait to see what he teaches me next. I have coworkers that have been playing the guitar for a long while and I already know more about notes, cordes and theory than they do. Now I just need to practice, practice, practice to be able to play as well as they do. And some day, I hope to be better. With Rick, I believe I will be, in time.

Guitar Lessons

Rick was exactly what I was looking for. I knew some chords, strumming, & some other basics before meeting him but, in just the few weeks I’ve been working with him, I feel like I already have a way better understanding of music than I ever had. I look forward to many more lessons with him. Great & personable guy.

Guitar Lessons (for adults)

After many years of not playing guitar I decided to play again. My brother, who was a professional drummer, always use to tease me about not "really" playing guitar since I didn't know a thing about notes and scales and musical notations. So in honor of my late brother I decided to learn. I selected Rick Taylor. I have learned so much from him that it is amazing. Patience should be his nickname, because he is always encouraging and upbeat. The part which I admire about him is his ability to play any genre. I happen to like folk, so our song to learn is going to be a folk number. Now that is taking a teachable moment to reality. I would strongly recommend him. He loves to inspire his students along with sharing his many musical talents. Not everyone can teach what they know, but Rick can. Thanks Thumbtack.

Guitar Lessons (for adults)

Had my first class with Rick recently and it went over very well. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the guitar and is willing to go in depth with any questions you have. A patient and fun teacher. Highly recommended!!

Guitar Lessons

Rick is quite skilled in teaching guitar. He has taught me theory, technique, and starting to read some music. I am 60 yrs old and new at the guitar. Rick is very patient and doesn't mind me needing repetition. I might add that I am working with a 3 string cigar box guitar which is a bit different but Rick has had no issues in helping me with this instrument. I highly recommend taking advantage of his expertise. JP

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Standard price is set for weekly lessons same day same time each week. Exceptions to this can be made on occasion.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

First thing I do is an assessment of where they are currently at with their music. I then ask questions of their goals and what they want to do with their music. From that point I develop a teaching plan based on that.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I played instruments throughout my school years, as a teen and adult have studied with multiple advanced level instructors, and I am constantly researching learning material from other methods. My students get the advantage of being taught the best from each of all those resources.
