I have been taking lessons from Jerimiah since August 2016. He has a wonderfully welcoming and positive attitude, which makes his studio a stress-free environment to improve your playing and challenge yourself. He is very accommodating of students' busy schedules, and is always responsive to text and email. He is very attentive to individual students' goals, and is proficient in a diverse repertoire from musical theater to jazz to classical, both for piano and vocals. He puts on seasonal recitals for his students, which is helpful for student goal-setting and performance confidence. I would recommend Jerimiah to vocal and piano students of any age or skill level. -Dan N.

Love his method of teaching...to the child's particular interests. Songs that they love. What a great motivator and it works! Kevin is very thorough and uses technology to enhance the lesson and practice times. He has also incorporated fun opportunities to encourage playing with others like Jam Band Sessions and playing alongside his performance settings for the kids to get a real sense of being a musician.

Catherine is such a great teacher! She has helped me find my voice in Jazz as well as gain confidence in my daily life. I really look forward to our weekly lesson. I went from almost no vocal rage to two and a half octave range. I will continue lessons for a while!! She has become a great friend too. I am a 29 year old tattooed hairstylist and she has always been so welcoming and kind to me. Thank you Catherine, I am recommending her to many of my clients.

David played lead guitar in my band. He is a "walk on" quick study for all types of music. He gives 110% with a top quality performance. He is committed and reliable for the job at hand. Nothing went wrong, but if it did he could pull out of it.

I have known Eric for over four years now. He taught my son. As a result of my sons work with Eric, he was selected as the Large School guitarist for the Colorado All State Jazz Ensemble. He managed to do that for three years in a row making him the best high school guitarist in the state. Mike is now studying music at the The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York. I feel strongly that he is excelling at this as a direct result of Eric's work with my Son. I have now taken my sons spot in Eric's busy schedule and am thoroughly enjoying his work on my playing as well. I would recommend Eric to anyone who is ready to become a guitar or bass player.

I took my 15 year old daughter in to Greg for her first recording experience. As Greg has said on his website, you need to "ask the right questions." We did not even know where to start. Greg and his awesome crew welcomed us in and over the course of a few months, my daughter has recorded four great songs with musicians that Greg provided, her songs have been mixed and mastered and they are amazing, Greg and his crew have filmed a video for one of the songs, and Greg has helped immensely with teaching us the ropes of marketing & the music business. If you want suits & ties, DO NOT go to KMG. This crew loves and lives music. If you want genuine people who will listen, embrace you like family, and work until all hours of the night, then call KMG. Their equipment and studios are top of the line, and with the expansion Greg has done, I have to think, KMG has BEST equipment between LA and Nashville. We have been extremely pleased with our time there, and with all of the talented people who work there. Frankly speaking, I have a lot of years in college & I can't do any of what Ryan can do to engineer a song at the soundboard. The instrumentation, computers, electronics, and sound quality is not something you get sitting listening to a professor. These guys have extraordinary talent, and it's all in one place at KMG. If you are considering recording, definitely give them a call.

Tomorrow is my second lesson with Wil Snyder. I have been away from the piano for over 40 years. I was strictly classically trained and have no desire to resume to this form of study. I expressed a desire to try a new approach to hom. Wil spent most of the lesson listening to me and has set me on a new path of learning based on the jazz approach to music. He will teach me know more about music improvisation, piano theory, and chord structure. My first lesson has been to practice the II-V-I chord progressions, circle of the fifths, and major scales along with finger exercises. I realize that I need a lot of practice, practice, practice! But I am excited about this and believe that Wil will help me reach my goals. He seems knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in imparting his knowledge to his student.

I would most definitely recommend Sydney's piano lessons! She is a very helpful and patient teacher; not to mention, she is also a very skilled musician. Her piano lessons have set a great foundation for me in music. The knowledge that I have from her lessons helps me to play with other musicians and to play in my school marching band. I have learned much about music theory from Sydney as well as a love for playing piano. If Sydney hadn't moved away, I would still love to have her as my piano teacher today.

The Steve Manshel Band was the absolute best. We hired them to play our wedding reception, but this isn't a wedding band - they are a true band. Their live show was so much fun! We had one goal for our wedding reception and that was for everyone to dance. Steve was able to get everyone up and dancing. I mean EVERYONE! He handed out cowbells, tambourines, and worked the crowded to everyone's delight. This band doesn't just play the usual repertoire of lame wedding songs, they surprise you with great songs and play them with 110% of their heart. Steve was able to read the crowd and played something for everyone. Their skill as musicians allowed them to take the songs they played to new limits as they rocked out the evening. They handled everything in regards to the music and entertainment for the evening and were flexible in dealing with the limited space of the venue, which was completely stress free for us. People tell us all the time that our reception was one of the most fun weddings they have ever been to. This was because of the Steve Manshel Band. They will not disappoint.

Scott provided a 4-piece bluegrass band for my sister's wedding. He was knowledgeable and learned all the songs we needed for the toast and first dances and played them well. He was willing to make changes at the last minute and he was very professional. Great band!

My husband is a huge music fan so we spent quite a bit of time searching for a band for our wedding. He likes more of the classics where me and my girlfriends wanted pop/dance music. Daddyblue was the only band we found that played every style flawlessly. The reception was an absolute blast. Even my grandparents danced most of the night! We were so delighted. Thanks Biff! We received percussion lessons from Kevin Keith. He not only is an excellent musician, but he is a wonderful teacher. He is very knowledgeable in many genres of music, from solo literature, to band/orchestral music, to jazz. Of which, he shares his knowledge and experiences with his students freely. He is very hardworking and enthusiastic to ensure that his students get a quality education. He is great in communication, both with the student , in ensuring understanding of lesson materials, and with the parents on updates on how the lessons are progressing. He has a very patient and friendly disposition, that would allow anyone to feel comfortable in working with him. He has been a wonderful teacher and mentor for the past 2.5 years.

There are truly no words to describe my love and appreciation for both Turi and Hipster Mama Productions. Working as an Director of Events in the Media world I have used a couple of bands at both smaller and larger expos. Her professionalism, her passion and her love for her clients is one I will never never take for granted. I love her so much, she is the band at my sisters wedding coming up in Summer of 2016. If I could recommend any of her bands, I would say you wont be disappointed. They are truly the best!

Mature, professional, experienced, seasoned. Mobile live musicians and DJ's are largely a fly-by-night bunch. I have been doing this at a serious top-shelf level for over 15 years, and I take every event as seriously as though it were my own. Music and entertainment are one of the most important aspects of your function and the quality will reflect on you for years to come; don't cut corners with a budget-priced newbie. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
