I couldn't have had a better experience than what I had with Mike. I had been trying to lose about 20-25 lbs by myself for the last 3 years, but could never motivate myself enough to eat well and exercise. Mike helped with exactly that. He got to know me and my goals and held me accountable in achieving them. Mike knows his stuff with nutrition and helped me find good tasting meals that were also healthy. He was a great personal trainer as well and showed me how to do a lot of exercises that I continue to do at home. I was able to complete my goals with him pretty quickly. I worked with Michael Aquilar for about 3mos and cannot say enough about what a wonderful experience it was. I really needed help with diet, smoking and alcohol as well as a strong desire to not only lose weight but to also gain strength. In the 3mos with Michael I was able to lose almost 20lbs of fat and showed very noticeable muscle definition. Michael takes a very personal approach to each session and is not there to make the experience awful. As many people know starting a workout regimen after, in my case, years of sedentary life is difficult. I needed help and not only did Michael ease me into it, what he had me do from an exercise and diet perspective started to take place in the first week. I was blown away that just 3 visits a week (with some personal exercise outside of sessions with Michael) would work as well as it did and has. I cannot recommend Michael Aguilar enough. If you're worried about going to gyms, fear judgement on how you think you look or are just simply not sure a personal trainer is for you I think you should give Michael a shot. I have been training with Mike for almost 3 years now and I highly, highly recommend him. It has literally changed my life. When I started with Mike I was overweight, in pain, on blood pressure medication and embarrassed to work out. Mike immediately put me as ease, and tailored the workouts to start with what I was able to do. The workouts were varied, fun, safe, and effective, and as my capabilities increased, he increased the workouts along with me, and I kept progressing. As a registered dietician as well as a personal trainer, he helped me with nutritional guidance at the same time, and helped me to face some long-standing food-addiction behaviors. I lost 75 pounds, am no longer on blood pressure medication, all my bloodwork has returned to normal, and my % body fat is now half what it used to be. I could not have done it without Mike. I know, because I had tried many times before. But it doesn’t stop there… being able to maintain this new me was the next phase, and it was a whole new territory for me. Mike helped me navigate this new territory - nutritionally, mentally, and in the workouts. Having successfully maintained my weight loss for a year and a half, I am sticking with Mike in what I like to call “phase 3”… now trying to push myself further, reach for other non-weight-related strength and body composition goals… and seeing what my body is capable of doing. The old self-hating depressed me is gone... I am now confident, enjoy life, and excited for what is to come. It’s hard work, but Mike is very supportive, positive, and focuses on your achievements and improvements. He goes the extra mile to help his clients become the best they want to be. He’s not an in-your-face intimidating gym boot-camp guy. I enjoyed working with Michael in our Strength Group. His group classes were well planned, fun and effective. He offered good alternative exercises for those of us with joint issues. He is always positive and encouraging. I had the same experience when working with him individually. He also provided information on food and dieting, including the effects different types of food have on your body, as well as suggestions on ways to approach a balanced diet.
