Hello!
My name is Thomas Stewart (hence “Stewart Photography” how original, right?!). I have loved the arts from a young age, starting my first career as a professional ballet dancer, and cementing my love for the human body as a medium of art. My love of photography also started at a young age, my dad gave me his old canon film camera, and from there, I was hooked. My love of the human form and love for photography meant that being a Denver boudoir photographer just made sense.
Why Boudoir?
My why for boudoir photography grew to be much more than wanting to showcase the power, strength, and beauty of the female form. It became a tool to empower women. I know this sounds strange coming from a guy, so let me explain;
Being a ballet dancer, surrounded by women, so graceful, strong, and determined was wonderful. But the negative self-talk in the dressing rooms and corridors was depressing: “I’m fat,” “I wish I were that pretty,” and “My boobs aren’t big enough.” The pressures of society and dance had every woman in my life on a constant uphill battle to overcome that societal pressure to just love themselves. It broke my heart.
I realized I had an opportunity to use my camera to capture their beauty, their strength, their tenacity, their vulnerability, their compassion, and help show them that “you are enough”. Stretch Marks, curves, dimples, and all.
In conclusion:
I LOVE helping the women I work with see themselves through the lens of the rest of the world or just from a new perspective. However, We are our own harshest critics (yes, men too!), and it is easy to put our own view of ourselves in place of the ones we love. We see ourselves through our own eyes and assume they see us the same way. Though nothing could be further from the truth, I can’t wait to show you.
