I wanted my teens to learn self defense and I'm so glad to have found common sense fitness. The cost, teaching and travel was great. He teach them things they were clueless about and now I feel confident that in a situation they will at least be able to know what to do. I have trained in the martial arts since the age of 5 and after learning different styles I found that Choy Li Fut Kung Fu is by far the most effective style of martial arts for real life combat, especially against multiple attackers. Sifu Gus Kaparos vast knowledge exhibits not only self defense but overall health and fitness and is unmatched. The respect and true genuine nature of Sifu and his students is great, a true kung-fu family!
Evis Bejko was my trainer for a little over a year. With him I would do Warrior Fitness and a little Muay Thai. His methods are very effective and just after 6 months my body was all altered. I had better stamina, and my muscles were much better defined. Also I had no more joint pain. Also, he would come up with new techniques and exercises quite often. I would recommend anyone to work with Evis.
Shihan Andre is an excellent instructor. He sincerely cares about his students and their progress. He gives tips to help them improve. He gives very practical information for the art of self defense. He also gives history behind the arts so that you can have a better context on how/why to do certain moves. If you want to learn an ancient art, while also getting a solid foundation on protecting yourself, there is no one better to go to.
I've had a great experience working will Coach Bill Pratt. He has met my personal needs as a collegiate athlete and I can see my improvement from week to week. He is very knowledgable about self defense and fitness in general and has a very diverse skill set. I attribute my staying healthy for the cross country season to the strength he has been building with me.

I learned a lot from training with Marco. He explains the technique so well, and how you should think during a fight, and where to look at. I never got that from other instructors that I went to. Hes been doing Jeet Kune Do/ MMA for years even before the UFC got so big. He teaches techniques for sport and for real life self defense. Highly Recommend.
I have been a student of the martial arts for 15 years, primarily in Kempo and Aikido, though I've dabbled in other styles. Dr. Pearlman has researched and studied classical styles to teach modern self defense. His classes have opened my eyes and my mind to a deeper understanding of the martial arts. Besides learning new techniques and applications, my performance in the other styles I practice have also improved. Dr. Pearlman's style is holistic, in the sense that it covers a wide range while keeping everything integrated. Strikes, kicks, locks, trapping and ground techniques are all covered. The focus is on self-defense, not fighting. Classes are relaxed but intense, great for beginners and experienced practitioners. I cannot recommend Praxis Martial Arts enough. Come down and see it for yourself.

I went to a Combat Hapkido seminar in Vermont approximately 18'years ago while on Vacation.I met a Great Group of people and GM P. !founder of the ICHF,he told me of a school teaching his system in the Bronx,near my home. I went to a class and the instructor ,GM Medina,and the others in the class were friendly but realistic in their approach as many were active NYPD,and they wanted to be sure what we did worked. I joined and have stayed on board all these years because I believe in what we do and what we teach,as Instructed by GM Medina. I have a background in various arts that date back to 1969, so this is not something I joined with no knowledge of anything else. I Have experiences in Oriental Self Defense,various Styles of TKD,I trained in Goju,Kenpo,as well as under two instructors of Wing Chun. ,Shotokan, Japanese Weapons,Aikido and under Three Korean Hapkido Masters,Ik Jo Kang,Chin Il Chang,and GM Tong Lee. So Imhave what many would call Traditional Hapkidomroots,and find Combat Hapkido of no real difference to what the Koreans taught other than we do lower kicks,and do not do the high throws seen in many Hapkido schools though High kicks and High throws were not what the founder,Choi,taught in his Yarawa,HapkidomteachingsI have also trained in US Military Combatives,WWII Combatives and Reality Based Self Defense systems. I still do other training seminars once in a while but my base art ,and system I would use and have used for street self protection is Combat Hapkido as trained at the Bronx Combat Hapkido School ,under GM Medina. I took my first class yesterday and it was a BLAST! KravMaga is a great work out and an excellent way to learn self defense while you are training. Tony is a true professional. He made me feel like I was getting a personal training session even though I was in a class. Well worth the money. I took some pix of all of his certifications. This guy is well trained!
Tang Soo Do is a wonderful martial art that provides great discipline, self respect, flexibility and a great source of weight loss. The teachers at Valley Karate are fantastic and they provide a variety of different instructions in line work, terminology, forms, one-step self defense techniques and grabs. They make themselves available for any help or support that is needed by any student. Valley Karate provides a great family inclusion aspect with Parents Night, Buddy Week and Family day. They also hold kids tournaments that make each of them winners no matter what happens and will be holding their first school tournament next Saturday, March 26th. Master Bergers is a superb role model for all the kids and adults, as well as all the other Masters and Dans. Finally, the students all aspire for Black Belt excellence at whatever level they are. Valley Karate rocks!

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing this testimonial to inform you of the talent and passion of my good friend, and teacher, Eric Stowe. While I met Eric while in high school, I did not get to know him until we met again after college. It is important to note, that up to age 19, I was overweight, and unfit physically. I was awkward, and when I walk, I tended, as my mother would say, to lumber. While in college, I lost a good bit of weight, and for a couple semesters, studied Shotokan Karate. Shotokan is a hard style karate, and practices included 45 minutes of strenuous exercise, followed by 15 to 30 minutes of technique or form. While my physical health improved some, I learned very little that would benefit me. After graduating, I met Eric when a mutual friend brought me to a class he was teaching. While we did warm up with some exercises, Eric quickly moved into techniques, so when we left the class, we had a feeling of accomplishment, that we had actually learned something that we could use. I immediately signed up to study under Eric, and continued to study with him for over 15 years. Within a year, my mother commented that while she wasnt sure how she felt about me studying the martial arts, she loved the changes she had seen in me. I stood more erect, I no longer lumbered when I walked, I was more graceful on my feet and more confident in life in general. I have seen Eric work with both men and women, both younger and older. From a middle school aged boy who studied for several years, to a retired woman who joined the class for about one year. Eric is a gifted teacher whose flexibility ensures that everyone in the class, from the most inexperienced, to the seasoned veteran, benefit from the time spent with him. I would recommend anyone looking to improve their health, balance, or peace of mind in a violent world, to spend time studying with him.
I started this training to improve my balance and learn a few potentially useful things while doing so. I've has done that and much more. The instructors take the time to explain, demonstrate and work with students to develop both their conditioning (think balance, not pushups) and their skills. The result is the ability to adapt to many different circumstances and confidence to go with it. This class is about useful skills and freedom of movement, not forms and drills. it is well worth trying.
Chris was excellent! We met for about an hour workout, starting with a warmup and some focused instruction and then bag work. It was an absolute blast and he is very knowledgeable. Chris taught me how to fit and I feel like I can take those skills into self defense if it were ever needed. Would highly highly recommend his services and classes.
