Goals
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: You are greeted by name every visit and treated like a family member not just a number. Being a small center there is no hiding in the corner or back of a class. You get personal attention with every workout. My favorite part of my job is the human interaction. Watching people accomplish things they thought they could never do, then seeing them encourage and or coach others is extremely rewarding. I make differences in people's lives.

Personal Best Fitness is a great gym for people of all ages and fitness levels. Tim has created a no frills environment where he tailors workouts to the specific needs of all his clients. He pays particular attention to individual goals along with working around any past or current injuries someone is dealing with. There are options for one on one training, group classes like ball, pilates, circuit or the new "jungle gym" using TRX straps on the new wall or just dropping in on your own time. If you prefer to mix it up with spinning there are classes with multiple instructors and even yoga to help balance the body and mind. If you want to get in shape, be challenged and meet some great people all while having fun, this is the perfect gym for you.

Tim is a wonderful trainer, with a manner that encourages, coaxes, and pushes me, depending on what he thinks I may need at the moment. I had never been successful at a gym program(goodness knows I tried) until I joined Personal Best about 4 years ago. I have stuck with it, despite a busy job with long hours and many possible excuses. The atmosphere is friendly and nonjudgmental: all ages, all sizes, and all levels welcomed and encouraged. One feature that makes Tim Calder unique is his training as a physical therapy technician. When I broke my hand several years ago, I was able to continue at the gym soon after my surgery because Tim designed an approach that accommodated my injury and its recovery. In addition, he did not charge me until I was back on my feet and able to fully participate once again. A gem of a person and a gem of a gym.

I compete in figure competitions and Tim is an awesome coach! He is very knowledgeable and over the course of several weeks, he helped me build muscle and create a more balanced physique. I was very pleased with my progress. If you're looking for great fitness programming, Tim is the trainer to see!

Tim Calder operates the best fitness center in Litchfield County, hands down and is an extraordinarily talented personal trainer. At a "fitness plateau" when I joined 5+ years ago, Tim's varied workouts and personal attention enabled me to achieve the "breakthrough" I was looking for. He runs a well-maintained facility, promotes a non-intimidating atmosphere, offers a myriad of classes for all fitness levels with a clientele of friendly people and makes "going to the gym" FUN!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Constantly researching new ideas , techniques, protocols not only on line but through professional seminars as well.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I am working with a client who had a serious fall several years ago that left him in a wheel chair with limited use and sensation in his legs. There was a session that I had him out of his chair and on the floor working into an all fours then kneeling position when his grandkids came in. They had never seen their grandpa out of his chair. They loved it. He loved it. I loved it. Those kinds of moments are why I do this kind of work.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Convenience is important. Hate to say it but it's true. To far out of your way to the gym and you will find an excuse not to go. Pick a center close to home.
