Michael Chamberlin Magic
About this pro
Michael contacted me to get information on the venue. He showed up early to set up. His magic was great and the show was appropriate for our mixed crowd of children and adults. I would definitely hire him again. He is a very nice man and a very good magician!Jun 12, 2018Verified
Michael was awesome. He was able to accommodate a last-minute schedule change, and was extremely professional. The audience was 18 11-year old girls, two teenagers, and two adults, and his humor was just right for the age group. He kept everyone interested from the first minute to the last, including a very hard-to-impress birthday girl. We would have him back in a heartbeat, for this age group or for an adult party.Apr 17, 2017Verified

- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work? The greatest teacher is experience. I began practicing magic at age 10 and started performing professionally when I was 12. I took magic lessons from many prominent magicians but it was my constant interaction with audiences that shaped me. I am also a theater director who studied acting and directing at the Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory in Wash, DC and at the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab. I have worked as an actor or director at The Kennedy Center, Ford's Theatre, Studio Theatre, Theater J and The Chocolate Factory. I believe every play or musical is a big magic trick that unwraps to reveal all of its surprises.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?Just because the magician knows a lot tricks and can perform them well doesn’t mean he or she can captivate and entertain an entire audience from beginning to end. It is a rare skill to mystify and entertain to the specific audience in the room and make them feel special. I have it. Most magicians have a lot of set patter and repartee that is not necessarily specific to the audience right in front of them. The magician needs to use the gifts of the audience he or she is given. A magician with theater, actor and movement training is preferable than one without.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?Even though the event may have all ages in attendance from children to adults what is the age range of the majority of the audience? This should be the focus of the magic show. What kind of environment would you like the magic show to take place in? Indoors? Outdoors? If indoors, what kind of room? If your event is outdoors do you have a rain contingency plan in case of inclement weather?
