Introduction: I have been a photographer for many years. There is something special about capturing moments but not just as a simple snapshot. Pictures are a record of who we are, how we feel, and what we love. Images can oftentimes convey thoughts and feelings where words are inadequate. Images themselves are a language. Let's make beautiful images together! I work on the following: Family Photos, Portraits, Headshots, Events, Products and Websites I currently use Nikon brand digital single lens reflex cameras, and lenses from Nikkor and other leading manufacturers. Also, I am skilled in the art of post processing and re-touching, currently using Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products which includes Photoshop, Lightroom, and others. Of course, you probably don't care so much about those technical details. You want a photographer that gets there on-time, composes great images, and delivers quality prints or digital files. James took a series of family portraits and candids that I plan to use for a holiday greeting card. Initially we planned on one location for some outdoor shots, but then he suggested another location nearby that was far better than than our initial setting. He had my kids at ease the entire time and was able to capture our personalities so well in the images. The closeup shots were amazing, and our images show depth and a bit of whimsy-- he made it very hard to choose a favorite photo!! James shared some untouched proofs with me early the next day so that we could start identifying which ones might be used for the holiday card. I was familiar with some his nature photos as well as portraits and event images, so I jumped at the chance to have him capture my family. He's professional, fun, and creative with an amazing eye- I highly recommend James Newton Photography!

I needed headshots and personality photos for my website and as part of my electronic press kit to send to agents and comedy club bookers. James and I discussed the look I wanted for the photos and easily decided upon a date and time for the shoot. He over delivered what we discussed. We went to several locales and made me feel comfortable during the shoot as I am anxious and sometimes that makes my face and poses look "off". He was very pleasant which made me feel very relaxed. He got the shots I wanted and also gave me photos I didn't even know I wanted! There was a very quick turnaround time and he was very communicative during the entire process! The photos are gorgeous and I can use them for multiple purposes.

We wanted to do a Senior Portrait photoshoot to capture our son's senior moments. We are so overwhelmed with joy with the results. Mr. Newton was very professional and patient. Mr. Newton photographed over 300 individual head shots and several group shots for our organization's directory over the course of several days. His professionalism and patience was impeccable to manage this task for this many people at one time... He delivered the polished photos immediately and the finished result is excellent. I hired James to take pictures of my mother's 73rd birthday party. The pictures and the video (which was a nice surprise) were absolutely lovely! James was on time (even though I wasn't) and unobtrusive as he took the pictures. I received links to the pictures and the video montage much faster than I expected. Everything far surpassed what I expected. The quality of the pictures and the videos was fabulous. I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with James' work. Without question I would hire him again.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to first have a conversation with the client to understand not just want they want as a final image or set of images, but also to understand who they are, and what their preferences and tastes are. I am looking for any information that helps me compose and devise better images.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken a few photography courses throughout the years, but most of my training has been through shooting pictures. A life lesson in photography that has actually helped me to better understand cultures, politics, relationships, nature, and science. I hold an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a Master's in Business Administration. Photography is my love and passion, that I want to share with others.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
My father had an old Yashica 35mm camera that I would take pictures with as a child. I fell in love with images and cameras then, and it has just continued through adulthood.
