Good communication leading up to the job (replacing a damaged part of a deck). Matt arrived on time with the right tools and materials. He worked efficiently and his work has held up well.

We hired Matt to help us deal with a mold problem that required identifying the source, fixing the problem, and putting up new drywall all on a tight timeline to work around a kitchen cabinet install. Matt was incredibly punctual and professional. He very carefully analyzed the problem and identified issues that we would never have caught ourselves. He didn’t just do the job but he thought through where the issue was and where else it might be a challenge. His work was very thorough and careful. He went the extra mile to swap in both a special kind of drywall and used a special kind of primer. The end result looked better than what was there before. Matt also added on a few other issues, replacing hot and cold water shutoffs that had kept leaking and were affecting our water bill. There again he was thorough and careful. We were really happy with Matt’s work and will definitely be hiring him again for future jobs!

Matt came by to fix a problematic lock on my storm door which seems like a simple issue but ended up being a multi set of issues. He was patient and vigilant in making all the adjustments needed to get the job done. I’d highly recommend,

We hired Matt to finish a project that we’d started with someone else, that involved drywall finishing, window framing, room and window trim, and installing vinyl stair caps. He completely misrepresented his level of ability and obviously had no clue what he was doing. He sounded very confident when he initially scoped the site, but then it was obvious he actually didn’t know how to do pretty much anything the job involved, and he kept stringing us along and acting like he did. For example, he said the job would take three days with an extra fourth day built in just in case. Three WEEKS later, only the stair caps job was complete. The workspace was extremely messy and chaotic, and he would spend entire days at our house but we would barely hear any work being done and when he left he would have nailed literally one piece of trim to the wall. He’d also leave our house 3-4 times a day and had a very strange anxious energy. His communication was also erratic and he usually only would update us if we asked him. It was like he just needed a place to be during the day, like he was hiding from someone or something. In hindsight, it was pretty sketchy behavior. Giving him two stars because he did a decent job on the vinyl stair caps install (just decent), but overall we would definitely not hire him again, and we’re quite upset about the money and time we wasted on him. We asked him to stop working once he finally started the window trim and it looked very terrible. That was when he hustled more than ever to get all his stuff out of our house the same day, leaving the drywall unfinished on one window and nails sticking out of the crown molding. After he was done, we had to hire someone else to finish the job who had to rip out some of the work he did, and they finished the job in two days.

Matt Ficke Home Improvement, LLC's reply
Thank you for the feedback, I’m sorry for your experience on this project. The sunroom renovation did in fact turn out to be beyond my ability to successfully complete and more than I could handle, and I apologize for the frustration and poor communication during the project. The money paid for the sunroom work has been refunded, and I’m glad you were able to find another contractor to complete the work. I take this feedback seriously and will strive to learn from the experience and do better in the future.
