FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediators are required to take 16 hours of continuing mediator education (CME) every two years. I teach a monthly 8 hour CME class and I also teach the 40 hour circuit civil mediation certification class required by the Florida Supreme Court for mediator certification.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I help people and businesses solve problems. If someone has a workplace dispute, a civil dispute with another individual or with a business, an employment dispute, or is going through or contemplating divorce, mediation provides and opportunity for the parties involved to work out their differences in a private, confidential and cost-effective fashion. Typically mediations last 3 - 5 hours and more often than not, the parties are able to resolve their differences, or at least have a better understanding of the dispute and how each party views the problem.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Hiring a mediator is like hiring any other professional. Referrals are best. It is best to talk to family, friends and acquantances to see if they have had an experience with a mediator, or if they know someone who has. There are over 5,000 certified mediators in Florida and many different practice styles, so it is important to talk with your prospective mediator and satisfy yourself that you are comfortable with their style. Also, mediators are governed by the Florida Rules for Certified and Court Appointed Mediators. take a look at the Rules at www.flcourts.org under the ADR link. Being an informed consumer is very important.
