FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
As many muralists will tell you, there are many things that can affect the price of the mural - size, amount of detail, surface preparation, and more. I also realize that for the customer this is a frustrating response. For me, you are looking at $20 or more per square foot. Very rarely will it be less than that, and the price goes up depending on how detailed the design is.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I feel like in my line of work I am constantly learning things. When working in different shops, there are always multiple projects going on, and I try to learn as much as I can about different products and ways of doing things. I also watch videos online quite often that talk about different techniques. My most recent official training was at Cobalt Studios in New York where I spent a week learning the ins and outs of different sprayers and airbrushes.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been involved in the arts, and theatre in particular, for as long as I can remember. I decided to major in Theatre Design and Production in college, but wasn't sure what I wanted to do. Once I started working in the paint shop, painting backdrops and scenery and props, I felt like I had found what I was looking for. While my work now ranges from theatre to theme parks to private residences, I always feel at home when I walk into a theatre's paint shop.
