FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I'm easily worth $60 an hour or more. To the best of my knowledge, most music stores charge $30 for a half hour lesson. This is NOT enough time except for the very youngest of students who have shorter attention spans. I prefer to teach 45-minute lessons as this won't make us feel as "rushed". The big difference is that the stores do it for the money. I don't although the few extra dollars helps. I'm far more concerned about SAVING the student as much money as possible even to the point of teaching them how to work on their guitars so that a "professional" music store won't rip them off. I also get students strings, tuners, picks and more at COST!!!! I do this as just one of the many extras that I provide my students with.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Setting mutual and achievable goals that incorporate songs that the student really likes is my very first step. From there, we get right into at the fastest pace the individual student can handle starting from the very basics right up to as advanced as the student wants to get. The best thing is that the student has a LARGE say in the type of songs we work on.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Too much to list. I've been singing all of my life (I'm 63) and have professional training and one of my own songs was on the radio. I had other professional musical instrument training before then. I started playing guitar at about age 8. I started professionally teaching at 16 (although I still took advanced lessons). That's 47 years of professional TEACHING experience!!!!!!!! I have no idea how many other CDs I'm actually on ranging from country to rock to musical jingles, advertisements and more.
