Introduction: Barnard's Martial Arts is a member of the United Kempo and Gung Fu Academies.
We believe that the martial arts offer a unique sports activity. The school (also called the "dojo") offers programs for all ages. Many families come to the martial arts because of its reputation for building discipline, self-control, focus, cooperation and fitness. When compared to other sports activities, the martial arts stand out for the focus on personal development.
Barnard's Martial Arts is also the home of MartialFIT, a fitness program designed to enhance the study of martial arts. Students attend a weekly yoga, kettlebell, and kickboxing class.
The key to martial arts success does not come from conquering others, but rather, from mastery of self. Studies now show that structured activities like martial arts can even help students challenged by ADD and ADHD.
Tracing its lineage to Bruce Lee's Oakland, California school, Barnard's Martial Arts follows a Jeet Kune Do philosophy of teaching, combining the complimentary arts of kempo and gung fu.
We offer instruction for students ages 3 and up.
