Introduction: Florida Aikikai is one of the foremost Aikido dojos in North America. Led by Chief Instructor Peter Bernath Sensei, 7th Dan, Shihan, our program offers classes for beginner to advanced students. Our dojo is a beautiful and traditional space with a 120 mat practice area, a comfortable student lounge, and plenty of room for visitors to join us and observe a class. We are located at Holiday Park Activity Center near downtown Fort Lauderdale. AIKIDO Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art based on the principles of universal harmony and non-violence. It is a highly effective form of self-defense that requires minimal force because it uses an attacker's own size and strength against them. Aikido can be practiced by men, women and children of all ages. Aikido uses dynamic throwing and pinning techniques to subdue even a much larger aggressor using minimal force. KIDS Children's classes are offered for Little Samurai (ages 3-4), Juniors (ages 5-7), Seniors (ages 8-10), and Teens, (ages 11 & up). Our interesting and exciting curriculum incorporates self defense, weapons training, Japanese, Bushido challenges, and meditation. Classes start with stretching, fitness, tumbling, and Aikido movement exercises which promote mind/body, hand/eye coordination. SEE OUR SITE FOR SUMMER CAMP INFORMATION.

Florida Aikikai - A wonderful dojo to learn Aikido-for both Adults and Children. Friendly and welcoming. Experienced instructors dedicated to the art of Aikido and to inspiring each student to develop at his or her own pace. Sensei Peter Bernath and Sensei Penny Bernath are both master teachers, with the title of "Shihan". All instructors are advanced level experienced teachers and practitioners of Aikido. The childrens program provides a variety of safe, well supervised Aikido learning opportunities and fun events throughout the year. I've noticed that both the adults and children look like they are having fun learning Aikido.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

We have monthly fees for all our programs, and we offer a reduced rate for payments made every three months. We have regular sign-up specials. Please see our website for details.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

You are welcome to do a free trial class before joining our dojo. As a new member of our school we will recommend the best classes for you to attend, and in every class you will work one-on-one with a senior student. In the first class we will go over the basic footwork and start to work on your rolls. Each person progresses at his or her own pace, so your training experience will be unique to you. We are a friendly dojo, and you can usually find someone to do extra practice after class.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Our chief instructor, Peter Bernath, 7th Dan, is on the Technical Committee of the United States Aikido Federation. Peter Sensei trained under the direct students of the founder of Aikido, and he has devoted his life to teaching Aikido and sharing its many benefits. The children's instructors, Helen Reynolds and Keith Lit, are 2nd degree black belts with 15+ years experience working with children. They lived in Japan for two years and are pursuing doctorates in therapy and psychology.
