FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $45 per hour for tutoring. If in-home tutoring is requested, I charge an additional $1 per mile for the distance traveled to a home. I can also meet with students at a local (Fort Pierce) public library or other agreed upon location. If a child needs tutoring, but their family is experiencing economic hardships - receiving SNAP benefits or Medicaid - I will tutor for $5 per hour within 10 miles of my home.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It helps to learn beforehand as much as possible about the difficulties the student is having and about the sources of the difficulties (prolonged school absence, learning disabilities, behavioral issues, etc.). If a student has an IEP, I'd like to know their current goals and objectives, as well as any diagnoses that should affect my methods. It would also be helpful to know if they have unmet goals from previous IEPs. Before I meet with students, I review their grade-level standards so that I can informally test their familiarity and skills when I first meet them. It's also good to get to know the student - their interests, strengths, academic fears - as soon as possible.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied Elementary Education at Castleton State College and graduated in 2003. I have been a licensed classroom teacher since 2003 and worked sporadically as a tutor (in person and remotely), as well. I am currently licensed (#1245010) in Florida to teach K-6; 5-9 Mathematics; 5-9 General Science; and K-12 Exceptional Student Education.
