I worked with Daniel Martinez, the principal of DMA Architecture & Design, on this project and several others of like scale and complexity. He was extremely focused on the structural constraints, and regularly attendant with construction supervision, as well. On this particular project, his organizational skills were immediately apparent, supervising the creation of the construction documents and ensuring that the plan set completely explained the scope of work. Although it was quite a few years ago, I still have construction inspection photos in my personal library. Mr. Martinez is as close to a Renaissance Man as I have ever met. I recommend him fully and without hesitation.

Highly recommend DMA Architecture for business integrity and ethics..Our NYC project took a quantum leap forward with DMA, resulting not only in superior design, but also doubling our COO (Occupancy) within the same confines..Our opinions and input into this project were highly respected by DMA..We needed something extra that would ignite enthusiasm and enlarge our vision..We couldn't be more excited about our outcome and the level of meticulous detail that went into our job..Everything from initial drafts to electronic filing and virtual meetings with city officials was an incredible experience..Outstanding..

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Architects typically charge for their services in one of five ways: Hourly; Cost per square foot; Percentage of construction cost; Fixed fee or a Combination fee. The range of fees typically will fall in the range of 10-20% of construction cost. At DMA we base our fees on project type, level of complexity and level of design and are primarily based on a percentage of construction cost. For full architectural services with a high level of design, our fees can range between 15-20% of the construction cost. Our fees for residential projects with a moderate level of design typically range is 12-15% If for example, your construction cost is $400k, then the fee would be between $48-60k. Where are clients typically only require a basic permit set with only a few details our fees are 8-12%. Thus for a basic project with a construction cost of $400 one expect to pay between $32-48k. Due to the complexity of renovation projects, are fees are between 18-20%. Additional services are based on an hourly rate and range from $125-$250/hr. Fixed Fees is most commonly used in projects where the scope can be clearly defined. Sometimes a percentage fee is converted to a fixed fee after the schematic design phase is complete and a cost estimate has been prepared. The fixed fee is usually calculated by estimating the hours required to complete the work or based on the expected result of the percentage fee.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Your project will begin in the Research Phase. This is where you get inspired and dream. You are gathering information and playing around with ideas about what your new house could be. At the point you want to firm up your ideas concrete, you are ready to move to the next step, the Analysis Phase. Firms such as mine offer clients a Needs and Options Report. We will analyze your project and discuss your options to achieve the best results for your lifestyle, site, and budget. We will check the feasibility of your ideas and understand the project constraints. Our fee for this service is charged hourly and typically ranges between $1250-2400 depending on the complexity of the scope of work.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have over 30 years of experience in multiple project types which include historic preservation, renovation as well as new construction. My broad experience throughout multiple building types such as retail, commercial, interior design, multifamily, houses of worship and custom residential projects enables me to see each project with a fresh eye. I hold a Master of Architecture degree and I am licensed in 4 states.
