Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have a Ph.D. in Education and Human Resource Studies and extensive background and experience in adult and childhood learning theory and practice. I can quickly assess a student's learning needs and abilities and craft a customized guitar program, so that the student progresses quickly, does not get bored learning and is constantly motivated to improve. What I like most about teaching guitar is watching my students get the same enjoyment and thrill from learning to play the instrument, as I get from teaching them.

To all eager Guitar players, My experience as a student of Dr. T was a highly educational experience. I can gladly say that I learned more about music theory, notation, and all kinds of chords then if tried to learn on my own. His knowledge of music is resourceful and exciting for anyone eager to learn the method behind the music. I learned how to read music through playing songs from sheet music, I learned the names of basic, 1st position chords and barre chords, such Gm7 and other jazzy barre chords. I learned scales such as the pentatonic scales and major scales over the several months that I was his student. Dr. T gave me the freedom to learn any song that I would have liked to, but he encouraged me to learn to play an entire song, which was very new to me since I always learned short guitar riffs. One of the most valuable things that I have learned from him is fingerpicking since with the techniques that he taught me have served as a foundation for my fingerpicking skills to develop greatly. He kindly refined my skills so that I could finally play like I wanted to. Thank you Dr. T! Sincerely, Kareem H.

Telly has been a pleasure to have as our son's guitar instructor. He is very encouraging and has done an excellent job mixing both progression through the lesson book and teaching songs my son wants to learn. He also has encouraged my son's creative side by teaching him to play the songs as they are written but then also encourages him to make them "his own". My son loves playing the guitar and is progressing very quickly, I owe this to Dr. T!

Telly is an outstanding teacher. He always puts the student's needs and interests first. He makes the student feel comfortable during lessons by finding the right pace, being patient, and finding ways to make lessons very entertaining. In short, I would recommend Telly to anyone who is beginning with guitar or who wants to take his playing to a higher level.

He is the best instructor I've had. He customizes my lessons to suit what I want to play & how I learn easiest. I would definitely recommend him for anyone wanting to learn to play guitar quickly & well!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

At some point in your life you have to stop going against the current and instead, start flowing with it. My greatest passion is playing the guitar. Next to that is teaching.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

First - Ask the instructor to tell you about his or her teaching philosophy and style. If s/he has to think too long about the answer or appears to be making it up on the spot, then be wary. A good instructor will respond immediately, with a good answer that should excite and motivate you. Second - Ask how many different guitar styles and techniques s/he knows, such as flat picking, finger picking, speed picking, improvising, soloing, rock style, blues style, classical style, jazz style, etc. A good instructor should know two or three styles very well and have some knowledge and skill of other styles, as well. Third - Tell the instructor what you want to get out of the lessons and then, ask him or her to tell you how s/he plans to meet your needs. Again, the answer should excite and motivate you to want to begin. Once you begin your lessons with your new instructor, then you will know soon enough, if you made the right choice.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Just because someone plays the guitar well, does not mean he or she can teach you to play well!
