Although our puppy had been through three complete 6-week obedience sessions at a big name pet store and even attained her Good Canine Citizen status, we were still having issues with her being rowdy, jumping up (she weighs 50 lbs), pulling and lunging while on leash, etc. We noticed a huge difference in Liberty with our first session with Tara! She would walk without pulling us over and even my husband, who had a fractured back and balance issues at the time, could walk her without concern of pain or being pulled over. She has since, with just a couple more of Tara's sessions, learned to calm herself, perfect recall, and much more. Tara explains the canine psyche and takes you step-by-step through how to get the results you want. Liberty has truly become the companion dog we were wanting. I could not more highly recommend Happy Hound Dog Obedience.

After an approx 8 week old hound/terrier mix puppy was dumped by my house, I tried to find him a home to no avail. I never had a dog before but always wanted a GSD. Since I don't have it in me to bring an animal to a shelter, I decided to keep him and give him a good home. After a few weeks of no sleep and frustration because I was clueless on how to raise Buddy the right way, I contacted Tara. I was on the brink of bringing him to a rescue because I just could not handle him. Now I have a 4 month old well behaved puppy. People who meet him all remark on how good he is and all say that their dogs were not this good at his age. Tara trained ME on how to get Buddy to understand what I expect of him to be able to live peacefully in my home. He's not perfect. He still has more to learn. He is still a puppy after all. But thanks to Tara I have the tools and knowledge on how to maintain a well balanced pup. And I learn from Buddy too. He has taught me patience and how to understand his needs. He's not the GSD I always wanted but like Tara says, "you get the dog you need not the dog you want". I could go on and on with the accolades but I will just quote my boyfriend and say that Tara is worth her weight in gold.

In February we rescued a 6 ish year old beagle mix from the woods. From what we could tell she lived outside her entire life. She was never a bad dog, but in order for us to love comfortably with her in day to day life, she required more professional training that what I could offer her. She was an escape artist, she would bolt off leash and never even bat an eye when asked to come back, she would get stiff legs when asked to go to her kennel, and she had ZERO confidence.While working with Tara we progressed to a fully off leash obedient dog, who goes to her kennel in command, has so much more confidence, will happily dive into the back of the car (would never do this before, as she had car anxiety,and still does to an extent, but its a work in progress).I walk her off leash regularly, we also put some respect on her eating habits, being a hound dog she goes stupid when food is around, so when shes told out, she removes herself from the food bowl, until told to resume. Tara had to create out of the ordinary ways to teach Bonnie certain things because Bonnie is special lol. I give Tara 20 stars! Not only did we create an obedient dog who we now LOVE to have in our home, we also created a lifelong relationship with a trainer who is at our fingertips with any issues Bonnie may have for her future! HIRE HER!!

Our family recently rescued a 5 month old hound/bulldog mix from our local shelter. He was a little nervous with our kids when he first came home. We did lots of research on trainers and based on good reviews as well as great interaction with Tara, we decided to hire her. She is AMAZING! She helped our new pup find his place in our home and helped him understand how to understand us. He is such a happy well balanced dog now and adores our kids She also helped me with some dog anxiety that I have been carrying for a few years from a dog fight I witnessed years ago. She is calm, kind, educated and soooo good with dogs. Our dog absolutely loves Tara and gets so excited when he sees her. We took her 6 week in home training and now attend her social hour for previous clients at least once a month. Everyone we have met has glowing reviews about their results in working with Tara! If you are thinking about getting a trainer, she is worth every penny!

Tara is an amazing dog trainer. She took my year old rescue from a dog with no manners and no obedience to a dog that gets compliments about his behavior. When I first got him he had food aggression issues, now he waits patiently in a sitting position looking at me until I give the command okay eat! I can also reach down and grab his food while he is in the middle of eating and he has no reaction except to look back at me as if to say Daaaaaddddd!!!!) He had no leash manners and now Ive gotten to the point where I can walk off leash with him with confidence...squirrels/cats no issue...in the rare occurrence he does get excited and start moving to chase one simple call of his name and he stops dead in his tracks! He now sits and stays!.....Well for the most part, he is a people lover and loves to greet them....still working on that ha ha). For a dog that never received socialization when he was younger Taras Saturday classes have helped him ten-fold! It is a great way to socialize, learn new techniques, and tricks my only regret is not being able to go to more! I would go nowhere else but Tara! Its great getting compliments from people about his manners and behavior! Thanks Tara!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The best way to learn about our programs and training methods is to chat on the phone; we like to explain exactly how and why everything works so you know how we're able to guarantee that it will work. We have four programs that range a lot in price, so there's something for everyone depending on their preferences, while all the programs are all guaranteed and also customizable. So we can even do less or more - we want to make sure we can help any family regardless of their budget. Officially our programs start at about $500 but we’ve customized programs in the past for as low as $200. We also offer installment plans and financing for our higher ticket dog training programs.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
If you have questions or are ready to sign up, let's set a time to talk on the phone. The enrollment process is easy and we'll help get you started! Typically Tara's wait list to start training is 3-4 weeks but in the meantime, we will give you access to our online resources that can get you started at home while waiting to start your formal training.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our head trainer Tara has worked with dogs since childhood. Since opening her business in 2013, she has helped nearly two thousand families train and rehabilitate their dogs! Tara is a professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals and her business was voted runner up for Best of the Bay 2018.
