Attorney Qui is very quick with communication response and her turnover rate was quick as well and her prices are fair. I'm very happy with her service and I like her honesty and professional integrity, those things should be common sense but they're hard to come by these days. I had consulted with other attorneys before getting on Thumback therefore I knew the kind of price everyone else was charging. At first her price seemed high comparing to other attorneys that also answered my request through Thumback but after speaking with them one by one I realised that it wasn't the case. The other guys only gave me their consultation prices or a low ball price that wasn't for my type of case just to get me in their door to talk to them so that they could charge me a consultation fee or maybe like them enough to stick with the higher price tag. Attorney Qui's price was reasonable and accurate, the price she quoted on Thumback was exactly the amount of legal fee she charged and turned out to be lower than other attorneys's price.

We hired Jeff to review and provide legal advice on a commercial lease we were considering and we were pleasantly impressed by his professionalism and quality of service. Jeff offered us an amazing price for his services and not only delivered what he promised for that price but really went above and beyond to make sure we were taking care of. Even though we had only hired Jeff for this one stand-alone job, we felt as if we had an attorney on retainer because we truly felt his goal was to protect us as his client. I would very highly recommend Jeff to anyone who needs an honest, fair, professional attorney. We will definitely use him again in the future.

I was referred to Julie and I couldn't have been more pleased. I consulted with several attorneys and had no idea what I was doing concerning my situation. When I spoke with Julie, I knew I found the right attorney. For starters, she had experience with the subject matter, which was critical in my case. She was very easy to speak to and always available; communication was great. She is a strong negotiator. I was extremely pleased with how she resolved my case. I hope I do not need her in the future, but I would not hesitate to hire her again if needed. Thank you.

Esq. Hubbs represented me in a legal case that required meticulous attention to details and knowledge of the law in Tampa, FL. I was able to reach him when I had questions and he always communicated with me and anticipated the opposing party's moves. He is a strong lawyer and I am more than pleased with the result of my legal proceedings. I decided to utilize his services because of his experience as defense attorney and as prosecutor. I am more than happy with the results. THANK YOU ERIC!

From our initial telephone Bankruptcy consultation, it was clear that Mr. Terry was going to look out for my best interest. After reviewing my case, Wes offered a competitive rate I could not turn down; and once I did my part collecting documents, he did his part with the courts in ONE WEEK. What makes everything so effortless is that Mr. Terry incorporates an internet portal which in turn makes everything easier for you. All I had to do was take pictures of my documents and upload them from my phone. Additionally, I didn't have to attend outside Bankruptcy classes: Wes has you sit in the comfort of your home and take 2 simple internet courses. If questions arise, he is always accessible. My case was done with minimal effort and closed within 8 weeks. He is a remarkable lawyer and one I will turn to again if need be. Consider him as your first option and look no further. Thank you again for everything, Wes.

A couple of months ago I lived one of the worst experiences of my life, when I was involved in an automobile accident and was unfairly accused of battery assault and resisting arrest. Thank God I had the good fortune to have Mr. Gibson as my lawyer, he is extremely professional, knowledgeable and he truly cares about his clients. Unlike other lawyers I always felt free and safe to reach out to him whenever I had a question and he always took the time to clarify my doubts and keep me updated with any new developments because he was always on top of everything regarding my case. I can honestly say that he was instrumental in keeping me "sane" at times when I thought I was loosing my mind. Thanks to Mr. Gibson I was able to get the charges drop and get my case close. Mr. Gibson is an excellent lawyer, I highly recommend him to anyone in need of legal representation.

John is amazing! His responsiveness is unmatched, his work quality is extraordinary, and his expertise is like no other. I interviewed many attorneys - long story short, John is hands down the person to utilize. He was quick to review the patentability of my product, fast to perform a patent search, and we are currently in the patent pending process! An experienced word of advice that I advise you to utilize - don’t search attorneys based on pricing, search based on quality. John brings the highest quality to the table with very competitive pricing. Thank you to him and his team for everything!

Adam is someone who works with a high degree of professionalism while treating his clients like family. He creates a comfortable environment and helpfully explains how things may proceed and what he can do about it. Adam listens to his clients and is honest about what he can do for your situation. That kind of honesty is difficult to come by and a valuable commodity in an attorney.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

  • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
  • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
  • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
  • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
  • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
  • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.
