REMOTE OPERATION PROCEDURES
The Law Office of James Kannard has been operating using a virtual office format since we opened, more than ten years ago. I decided it was more economical to work remotely with you to handle your case and make sure I get everything done without having to meet in person unless absolutely necessary. That way you don't have to take extra time off to travel to and from my office for in-person meetings.
I know that legal issues can be dragged out over a long period of time, causing them to become expensive. I maintain a digital office and file everything with the court online. Because I maintain an electronic office, I don't have to charge the same copy fees that other attorneys charge. Plus, the office is accessible to me wherever I go. I chose to run my office this way because it reduces my overhead, and allows me to pass the savings along to my clients in the form of lower fees and reduced costs.
Another benefit of having a digital office is that I can offer concierge legal services. That means, if we need to meet in person, I can meet you anywhere you prefer: in your home, at your office, the library, or at Starbucks. I am also available for appointments in the evening and on weekends if scheduled in advance.
FINANCING AVAILABLE
I know how difficult it can be to come up with a large retainer. That's why I provide flexible financing options to clients.
I do charge a small fee for your initial consultation. However, your consultation fee will be applied to your account if you retain me. Even if you don't retain me, everything we discuss will be kept completely confidential.
As long as I'm not in a hearing or mediation, you'll always get to speak with me when you contact my office directly, instead of having to wait for a secretary or paralegal to relay me your message and contact you back with my answer.
I enjoy helping people resolve their legal issues, doing my best to schedule meetings so they don't have to disrupt their already hectic life, and making things as easy as I can for them to understand. I also enjoy getting to help parents work out their differences in ways that can minimize the effects of a divorce on their children.

When I was looking for a new family law attorney, I checked out all the websites. I checked out a few of the top rated lawyers that was listed on www.avvo.com. I called them and honestly, I wasn't impressed. I called James and presented my issues to him and he mentioned things that the other lawyers that were supposedly top rated didn't even suggest. When you're spending money, you want someone for you verses being another number. James works with you and for you. He wants to please you. He knows his stuff. He knows family law. My first attorney in my divorce was not as proficient as James is. I wish I had James the first time so I wouldn't have to go through this again. Divorce, time sharing and child support are very stressful. James clearly knows the law and especially will make you happy with the decisions that you make. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

We have recently hired Mr. Kannard for our parental rights case. We had spoken with him back in August and he had given us a suggestion. That suggestion led us to where we are now. I don't know why I even bothered to try and seek other council. From the first phone call in August to contacting him again just last week, he has gone above and beyond any other attorney that I have spoken to. He puts his whole heart into everything he does. We are in Michigan and our case is in Florida, he immediately had me start sending him as much information as I could about our case. NO ONE ELSE DID THAT!!! He even followed up after our first contact with him in August. We are so grateful for him already!!!

Well I talk to the Lawyer about 2 days ago send him all my paper I send him 2 e-mails but I have not heard back from him, im just getting a little worry about my court date on the 20th of this month, BUT he's very to the point on what he is going to ACOMPLISH with my case. I just hope he gets back with me soon. If not I have to get another Lawyer ASAP

So far so good. Still in the middle of everything and this website is constantly asking for feedback so now I'm giving what I can. James is a great communicator unlike the other law firm I employed previously. I'm a results guy so time will tell. James has though tried avenues that other firm did not. And most importantly he puts the child first! I respect that he's not only on my side but on my daughters side, even more so than mine a lot!

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge a fixed fee for uncontested Family Law issues (e.g. divorces, time-sharing, child custody, child support, and post-divorce enforcement). Any fixed fees are non-refundable and are considered earned once paid. If for some reason someone changes their mind in an uncontested case and decides they want to contest any part of the case, I convert the fixed fee into a retainer and charge an hourly rate for my fee.
For contested issues, I charge an hourly rate. The rate I charge is based, among other factors, the time and labor involved, novelty or difficulty of questions presented, the results obtained, time limitations imposed by this representation, and my reputation, experience and ability. I normally ask for a non-refundable retainer in advance. The amount of the retainer will depend upon the scope and complexity of the issues of your case.
The fees above do not include additional costs such as court filing fees, fees to have documents served, copy fees and postage. Depending upon your case, I may ask that you provide a Cost Deposit, or I may ask that these be paid as they are incurred.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My initial consultation is free if the client retains me. During my consultation we discuss their case, explore their options, and I explain to them what they can expect from me should they decide to hire me.
If they want to hire me, I go over my attorney-client contract with them, and discuss how we will move forward with their case.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to my legal training and experience, I have personal experience going through the family law courts. My ex-wife took my kids out of state and hid them from me. I had to fight in court, but finally the court awarded me custody of my kids. So I know what it's like to not be able to see your kids and also know the impact that has on children. I've lived that emotional roller coaster and can honestly say "I know how you feel." Don't worry, it will get better and if you hire me I'll do everything I can to help you get through the rough times.
I've been a Volunteer Guardian ad Litem in the Dependency Courts since 2009 and advocate on behalf of children who have been abused or placed at risk of harm. This is probably the most rewarding thing I've ever done in my life. I also work as a private Guardian ad Litem in Family Law cases where I provide an independent evaluation of the family's situation and recommendations to the court.
In the area of Business Law I have personal experience as a member of a several different Board of Directors running Non-Profit Corporations. So I know what the business owners want and expect from their attorneys. I also have personal experience as a Program Manager where I was required to ensure that my programs remained compliant with all contract terms and regulatory requirements.
