FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Labor is usually twice the material plus any artistic input is extra. i.e. a mural on your wall or headboard, or a tufted headboard. The prices for these kinds of items are pretty standard, and very competitive in the market.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
This is art, so I follow the latest trends in furniture and fabric, through magazines and websites, but ultimately, I have to be the receiver, and let everything I see inspire me. My partner Jose Laboy, is also a great artist, so we are constantly learning from one another.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was an artist as a child, a painter since 15 years old, became a carpenter by volunteering to build churches, learned sewing working part time in a taylor shop, went to school for electricity, and finally combined all those skills doing home and auto upholstery and furniture refinishing. I knew carpentry well enough to fix broken chairs, painting well enough to refinish well, electricity to safely remove and replace car seats, and sewing enough to do excellent lines on cushions and other pieces I sewed. All my skills just lead me to design naturally.
