I've waited many years to hire a divorce attorney. It seemed too difficult of a goal. I wanted someone, who had a big heart, and a trusting soul. It was also very important to be able to afford it. I knew Elizabeth was the one when I spotted her picture, and read her story. She worked with me, so that I could afford the payments. I didn't think it would happen this fast, but I can now say I'm happily divorced. I've already recommended her to a friend, and highly recommend her to anyone seeking a divorce, but afraid to make the leap. My biggest hurdle was the courthouse, and it wasn't at all as scary as I thought it would be. She guides you through the steps, making it easy to understand, so you don't feel like you're walking alone. Jeanette F.

I cannot say enough about my positive experience with Kevin. This was my first time using thumbtack and naturally I had some reservations. Reading his prior reviews lead me to give him a try and I'm so glad I did. I am now another satisfied client and will be using him for any legal matters I need in the future. The most amazing part is that we never met face to face. We did everything via phone and email. That took a lot of trust and he earned it. What i like the most is that whenever you reach out he responds the same day. You are never left to feel like once he has gotten your money you are dismissed. Plus his rate was very reasonable. I saved almost $1000 dollars going with him as opposed to a local law firm that was referred to me by a family member. Kevin is the best! A consummate professional and knows his stuff! If you hire him you won't be sorry!

So far I’ve already had two other attorneys representing me on this case and neither one did what they said they’d do. I gave one of them a $2500 retainer and she did absolutely nothing in the 4 months that I had her on my case, so you could see why I was very nervous about hiring another attorney, but I’d have to say that finding Erin Hardister McLean and Laura Vittletoe have been a god send. They’ve accomplished more in the one week since retaining them, then my last attorney did in 4 months. They are very reasonable on their fees as well. They’re hands down the best attorney’s out there. I’ve already referred them to one of my friends and will continue to do so..

I only have great things to say about both Shannon (the attorney) and Sherrie (the paralegal). Both are amazing at their work and very professional, while at the same time being friendly and easy to work with. I hired the kimball firm to take care of my divorce case. It's not finalized yet, but I can say I am very happy I hired them. Another very good thing is that Shannon's fees are quite reasonable compared to the outrageous sums other attorneys charge. As my divorce case progresses, I will update this review to give you a complete picture of working with the kimball law firm.

When I was looking for a new family law attorney, I checked out all the websites. I checked out a few of the top rated lawyers that was listed on www.avvo.com. I called them and honestly, I wasn't impressed. I called James and presented my issues to him and he mentioned things that the other lawyers that were supposedly top rated didn't even suggest. When you're spending money, you want someone for you verses being another number. James works with you and for you. He wants to please you. He knows his stuff. He knows family law. My first attorney in my divorce was not as proficient as James is. I wish I had James the first time so I wouldn't have to go through this again. Divorce, time sharing and child support are very stressful. James clearly knows the law and especially will make you happy with the decisions that you make. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

Mr. McDermott is an amazing person as well as family law attorney, he was able to accomplish everything that I was not. He helped me with any questions or concerns I had in regards to my case. He also got the time-sharing that I longed for in the past few months, Mr. McDermott got a hearing for my case within 2 days and the date was set within a couple weeks. He is to the point and clearly deserves the highest of praise! I can't thank him enough and would personally recommend anyone looking for an intelligent, time savvy and honest attorney to hire Mr. McDermott.

Josh and his team are a group of prodigious, dedicated and hardworking people. They helped me when I was rear-ended in March of 2018. I reached out to him while I was lost and had no idea what to do as this was the first accident I have been in. When I called I was met with a warm welcome where I informed Josh about the situation and let him know the extent of my concerns, injuries, and damage to my vehicle. He laid out for me, very clearly, exactly how he would approach the case and each step he would take in settling my case. He is a knowledgeable, experienced, successful attorney. More importantly, he is a compassionate, honest human being, which is essential when it feels as though your life is falling apart. I highly recommend him and his firm. My case turned out far better than I had hoped for. They were always in touch, always had all the answers to any questions. This law firm carried me and my family through the most horrible time of my life. They were always there for us day by day. It gave me time to concentrate on healing. A level of trust and caring that I will always be truly grateful. I would highly recommend Josh if you are looking for somebody that not only cares about winning your case but also cares you as his client. -Brett M.

We are just getting started but I feel very confident in Mr. Edison. Right away, he was very responsive and has taken the time to explain everything in detail so i could understand it. He was the first attorney that I had spoken with that completely saw things from my perspective. He also seems to tackle things differently than others and overall I just felt it was very refreshing. I look forward to moving forward with his experience and guidance in my divorce/custody case.

I would recommend Amber anytime. She was prompt with responding to me. Her consultations was very thorough and she was not looking at the clock. I was discouraged about attorneys after an encounter with another attorney which was 15 minutes late for our 30 minute appointment and yet rushed me 7 minutes into our consultation. Thanks Amber for changing my perspective about attorneys and for helping me.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
