Mike and his team poured a double wide (20') driveway and carport (28' wide) with two turn around pads for me. Very large job that included re-enforced concrete. The driveway and carport are awesome. I'm especially happy with the "apron and curb" coming off the street. I live in S Tampa on a busy street so the access to and from the road was critical. Mike did excellent. There was a significant SNAFU with the city over permits (I insisted on them and they were written into the contract). Unfortunately when coordinating for the permits, MF Concrete and the City planners didn't get all that were necessary. That shut down work for three weeks. When finally cleared Mike and his team quickly returned and finished the job. I think the blame for the delay is shared with the city. I would gladly hire MF Concrete for future work!

We hired Parthenon to help transform our backyard into our own private oasis. We added 2 patios, walkway and had a gazebo installed. It looked so nice we decided to have them till up the bahia grass and add st Augustine grass. The patios were dyed a two tone color which looked fabulous. The guys were professional and responded almost immediately to my calls. The pricing was very affordable. If pavers are too expensive consider a concrete pad that has the look of pavers or stone. I will be using them for my next home project.

When it was time to upgrade our home in Port Charlotte, I spent several months meeting with 7 different paver installers. Trudi, from Preferred Pavers & Concrete impressed me with her broad knowledge of all 3 projects I wanted: replace our concrete driveway and front walk, use remodel pavers for our pool area, and add a new patio with garden walls and a fire pit. A walk from the patio to our boat dock was also in my plans. The fact that they are nationally certified clinched the deal! I could not be more pleased with the results. Their attention to detail is beyond compare. I witnessed Jose, one of their men, fit 3 different pool coping pavers in 1 spot until he was satisfied with the fit and color! This is a very professional business that was a joy to work with. I give them 5 stars.

The new driveway looks incredible. We replaced an old and crumbling asphalt driveway. The process to get there was not as smooth as I would have liked, but Ray kept overcoming every problem and moving the project forward. Very straightforward, honest man to work with and to have as your contractor

I have never worked with a team more professional than Sam and Yana. From the 1st time we met, they treated my house as if it was their own. They listened to my needs and made suggestions after I told them what I was looking for. I needed my two story house exterior painted and waterproofed along with my driveway and pool deck. They showed up every morning bright and early, on-time, and ready to work and did not leave till dark. They were great communicating with me (text, e-mail, phone) and kept me informed every step of the way. Along with their extreme professionalism comes an amazing painting skill set. After Sam pressure washed my roof, he came up with the idea and took pictures for me of some problem areas that I could show to a roofer. I also had them paint a few rooms inside my house after I saw the beautiful job they were doing with my exterior. I am so happy with the way the house looks and I have Sam and Yana to thank for that. I will be doing business again with them very soon! Mike Barbaro

I recently hired Captial Contracting Group to complete a paver job for an outdoor living space. Capital Contracting did a phenomenal job creating exactly what I wanted, the staff were very friendly, very clean, and timely! I did not have to do anything but enjoy my new space when they left. I am going to hire them again to paint the exterior of my home!

The Service I received from Amazing Outdoor Services was second to none. I was working on updating my back yard and I needed White River Rock laid around my pool area. During the process I accumulated a lot of access dirt, rock and pavers. I could not find a landfill that would take these materials close to my house. Mike called me with a solution; he arranged to have a 6yd dumpster placed in my driveway and his guys put all the access piles into this dumpster and had it hauled off. The guys who did the rock were very respectful and did a few extra things that made the end product look Amazing! I will call Mike again and I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a genuine guy to do business with.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

      • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
      • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
      • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
      • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
      • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
      • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

      What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
