FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing system is fairly straight forward. Per-word projects: - 500 words or less is $0.18 per word - 500 to 1000 words is $0.15 per word - 1000 to 2000 words is $0.12 per word Extended projects start at $30 per hour. An extended project is: - Any project not based on word count or the anticipated or final word count exceeds 2200 words - Any project requiring more than 3 to 4 hours of additional research (in addition to what is initially provided) - Any project related to a process, a procedure, or policy - Any project requiring specialized graphics, multiple (more than 2) images, or screen captures - Any project where the documentation of the primary topic is to run concurrently with the topics development - Any project where a template or design has to be created to accommodate the content These are basic guidelines. Rates for each project are considered based on availability, the type of project, the type of customer (commercial or not-for-profit), and the projects topic.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I mostly create guides and manuals for software applications, e.g. user guides, administration manuals, training materials, and implementation procedures. I also create web content blog content, articles, and essays as well as SEO content and formats. As a technical writer I tend to be a methodical researcher, which I am able to apply for various project types. Occasionally, I have the opportunity to do a creative piece, but most of the creative work I do is for my own projects.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Be very specific with your proposal, and define your expectations of the final draft. Ambiguity can be costly. My rates for per-word content can range from $0.10 to $0.25 per word, and my extended project rates - assignments not base on a word count - average around $35 per hour. When I have met all the requirements defined for a project, I expect to be compensated for my time and effort.
