FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

My journey in the trade of carpentry started at a young age. I began working as a carpenters apprentice for a Union Contractor at the age of fifteen. What started as a summer job, quickly became my driving passion. In my eyes; it was not only a job, but something I wanted to pursue as a career. I knew I’d have to prove myself and work my way up the ranks in order to accomplish my dream of owning my own building company. Nothing worth doing is ever easy. After many years of grit, dedication and perseverance; I’d gained the knowledge, skills and experience to make the dream of owning Seggie Custom Builders a reality. As you can see, I’m not just a builder, and this is not just my job, it’s who I am, it’s what I was meant to do.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

The most consistent job we receive from our clients is bathroom and kitchen remodels. In most cases we completely gut the existing kitchen or bathroom and start with a blank canvas. Most clients request for their kitchen to be more open to the living area. Our clients literally get to customize their new spaces. From choosing the cabinets, and counter-tops, to the back-splash and lighting, everything is chosen by them and we just put their vision together. We have plenty of previous projects we've completed with photos that capture the renovation from start to finish. We have also done many commercial remodels. From a jewelery store, to an Assisted Living Center and so many more. Our #1 priority is to make our clients happy. We take their space and transform it into something that is truly special. Seggie Custom Builders is known for their custom work. Most of our jobs have some type of unique custom work done. We've made an over-sized custom mirror in a salon, and a custom bench seat in a breakfast nook. We think it's these touches that make us stand out from our competitors.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Taking on the construction of a commercial or private property can be a little overwhelming. So it stands to reason that finding a Contractor that will not only get the job done, but see out your completed vision is a must. For those of you searching for a highly qualified contractor, whether it be for a personal job or commercial; there are qualities in a contractor you should look for before signing on the dotted line. At Seggie Custom Builders, we are proud to say that we have perfected these qualities, and exemplify them in our daily work. Use these guidelines to find the contractor that best fits your custom needs. Quality #1 Construction and Technical Expertise It’s important you find a contractor who specializes in your type of project need. A good contractor will not only know specific material specifications, but also have a a system for determining your timeline of completion. Your contractor will be more likely to give you a reliable estimate of costs if he/she is familiar with your custom needs. Quality #2 Communication with Client You should be able to feel comfortable communicating your needs and wants with your contractor. A good contractor is able to offer alternative ways to meet your needs and still stay within budget. It’s inevitable that you will have concerns along the way. It’s important your contractor is able to alleviate some of those concerns by offering other solutions. Communications between your contractor and yourself is a key component in a successful relationship; it helps things run more smoothly. It should be evident that your contractor earnestly cares about your needs and strives to bring you good customer service. Quality #3 Experience in the Field It’s no surprise you want a contractor who has lots of experience in the field of construction. I definitely wouldn’t want someone performing a major surgery on me when they only had one other surgery under their belt. It’s no different with your construction needs. You want someone who has at least 5 years of experience. It’s good to find a local business owner who has already built a good rapport with the community. They will be able to back up their credentials with testimonials from previous clients. There is no better way to find out a contractors work ethic than to talk to his last client. Quality #4 Knowing your Sub-Contractors Building Contractors use Sub-Contractors who specialize in some of the more specific aspects of a renovation project such as electrical and plumbing. It is extremely important that your contractor trusts and recommends their sub-contractors. A contractors reputation relys on the workmanship of their sub-contractors. You want a contractor who expects nothing but the best from his sub-contractors, and will address any issues that may arise during the project. Quality #5 Realistic Expectations Taking on a construction project has it’s own challenges. Doing a renovation on your home means living in a construction zone. This means dusty, loud, and disorderly. No matter how good of a contractor you have, there will be deadlines that have to be pushed back, supply orders that are out of stock, and delayed construction due to weather conditions. Remember, sometimes it may mean taking a little more time to perfect the littlest of details in order to provide you with the highest quality products. Some minor hiccups are bound to happen. It’s up to your contractor to put your mind at ease. They are there to deal with any issues that may arise during the project. Think of them as your right hand man; there to pick up the pieces. Before beginning your construction project, make sure to talk with your contractor so you can get a better idea of what circumstances to expect. This way they can help to dissolve any concerns you may have prior to renovation.
