- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My first step with a new client involves filling out a brief questionnaire about the animal(s) in need of training. Then we can set up a free consultation to talk about training goals for you and your animal(s). I can come to your home, or we can meet at a place like a park nearby. The first session is free, so there is no pressure! My goal is to share with you what I think will be the most successful training plan for your unique situation. If you like what I propose, then we can schedule our next session!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have about 10 years of experience working with animals as a full time job and a B.S. in psychology from Florida State University. Most of my animal training experience comes from working in a zoo setting. I have trained many different species of birds for free flight shows and encounters as well as a variety of exotic mammals and reptiles. I have even trained lizards and alligators to perform behaviors so the public can view them! Over the last 10 years, I have mentored staff and interns as they develop their training skills. I only use positive training techniques, which are methods that are backed by science and research. My academic background along with my hands on experience has made me creative and well rounded. Keep in mind that the science of behavior modification applies to all animals, so no matter the species in question, we can always find a solution through good training techniques.
