Introduction: With 18 years of experience in graphic design, I have accumulated the skills and techniques to not only create the graphics/visuals, but to apply them to a wide spectrum of applications.
Knowing that most people that hire me are not graphic designers, I make every effort to supply each client with what they'll need to move forward with their design needs in an industry in which they are not familiar.
Being very interested in marketing , sales and the psychology of persuasion enables me to incorporate those extra valuable ingredients into my work.
I love the fact that my job is creative and that doing graphic design positions me to work and explore a large, diverse range of industries and media.

I had the pleasure of working with Smotherman at Whiteline Creative. He is a veteran designer with a wide range of skills and has expert knowledge in various design programs. His ability to work fast and produce quality work for numerous brands in different industries was essential for meeting our agency and client demands.
Even with many competing projects, Smotherman was able to multitask, manage, and ensure each project would always be completed before the scheduled deadline. He listens to clients requests, is flexible with requested changes, and knows when it is best to recommend an alternative creative direction.
Smotherman has been my favorite graphic designer I have personally worked with and I will continue to use his talents as a freelancer.

I have been working with Richard Smotherman since 2001, when I commissioned him to create a logo & letterhead package for a company I was starting, Ovation Direct Marketing. He also created the design of our website.
He was so exceptional and creative, and so easy to work with, that we started hiring him for graphic design jobs for our direct mail campaigns...until eventually it just made more sense to bring him on full time.
In EVERY way, Richard was an exemplary employee. He was flexible, and had a superb attitude about dealing with changes in a new company, fluctuating between 5-11 employees.
He was hungry and ambitious, and his desire to grow was obvious. He came to optional leadership trainings we held.
His enthusiasm was contagious. And I particularly appreciated how Richard took ownership of our company as if it was his. I have known him over the years to have that same attitude about any team he is a part of.
Due to some personal challenges, I ended up closing the business in 2003. And in doing so, the employee I was most concerned about losing was Richard. I felt like he and I as a team could be unstoppable. He is so fiercely loyal, creative, upbeat in the face of challenges, and someone who finds a way to get any job done, even in the face of seemingly impossible odds.
Richard has also done freelance graphic design for projects I have been involved in recently. This work involved logo work, blog and website design, and design of information products (CD's). He also did some back end work for me on my webste, even though he says that is not his forte, his work was good.
In every way, Richard has been a joy to work with. His work always brings compliments. His creative ideas inspire me to a higher level of planning. His upbeat, winning attitude helps everyone on the team believe 'we can do it.'

I had the privilege to work with Richard at WhiteLine Creative as an account manager. He is not only a great person, but an amazing designer. He would be able to take an opportunity that I presented after meeting with the client and turn it into an effective and eye-catching design piece. He is an out of the box thinker and presents a variety of solutions to the project. His quality is outstanding and he is not afraid to get more clarification if need be. At WhiteLine Creative, we were presented with many projects all at once with very tight deadlines. He rose to the challenge and was able to produce exceptional work in a short amount of time. Working with Richard taught me a lot and I will miss working with him.

Richard has created 3 package designs for my company, and they were exactly what we wanted. He was responsive and considerate of our requests. During the design process, he made creative suggestions and tweaks that we never would have thought of, but found absolutely necessary once we saw them! His work was further validated when customers described our design exactly as we had hoped - "sophisticated and modern". Having seen many other examples of his work, I consider him to be a very versatile artist who is capable of producing a wide range of styles on various media.
