There's only one word to describe Joel and is that is "AWESOME !!!! I never use that word but in this case I have to make an exception. First day I walked in his office I felt comfortable and at ease discussing my case with him...like if he was an old friend. He gave me the sense that he is confident at what he does. I contacted several attorneys on New Year's Eve and only he, took the time to text me right away. This alone impressed me. It came down to him and another attorney but thank God I went with my gut instinct. He's a professional that cares about his work and clients. He had my careless driving charge dismissed before arraignment. And I'm most definitely sure if it came up to fighting it all the way Mr. Leppard would have been by my side. Most attorneys care about money and the easy was out...plea bargaining...he never gave me this impression. 10 stars and I highly recommend him.

My family needed some professional help. We, "not being familiar with this arena of life", called quite a few attorneys and started explaining our situation. I tell you, we were not impressed as we felt the only thing we were getting was an extremely expensive attorney and their primary concern seemed to be just that, when can you pay. However, it was refreshing to talk to Brian as money was not the first primary concern, but rather, we felt a heartfelt concern about our situation and a genuine desire from him to help. He explained everything to us as far as potential expectations both positive and negative and assured us that with his experience, he would work his ass off to argue on our behalf to bring forth reasonable solutions that would not only satisfy the law requirements while at the same time, not throw the family under the bus. Through the whole process, Brian was on top of it and something else; I never texted or called him without getting an immediate response to the text or phone. I was totally impressed with that! In the end, I feel like I made a new friend, who happens to be a damn good criminal defense attorney. Thanks Brian.

I retained Ms. Wilson to work on my mother's immigration case as I was working with other attorneys and felt unsatisfied as they did not communicate well throughout the process. Once Ms. wilson was retained I fell a heavy weight lifted off my shoulders as she kept me informed throughout the entire process and was very patient with us while awaiting documents from myself and previous attorneys. Ms. Wilson was very honest about the process and explained what is expected as the case moved alone. Ms. Wilson was very easy to get in contact with and always return my/family members phone calls. Her actions showed that she cared about the case and her clients. She is very professional!! Thanks Ms. Wilson you are the BEST!!!

If I could put 6 stars I would!! I just went through a rough stage in my life and trying to figure out what to do, filing Bankruptcy was my best bet. Until I hired Alec Solimata, I was a mess I was so stressed. . I called Mr Solomita and after I met with him one time I felt so much better. I actually went and talked to a few attorneys before him but once I talked to him I knew he was going to a great job. He is always right there during the whole process answering any question that you may have. I am going to admit I had a little more difficult Bankruptcy than most. I even had another attorney tell me I would not be able to file ch 7 Bankruptcy due to my situation.but not him he was confident during the whole process. We went into court and walked out 12mins later, just a nice easy interview because he had everything already so prepared. Don't make a mistake and go with someone else. I just went through all that and I'm so glad I hired Attorney Alec Solomita.

Attorney Congelossi prepared TWO motions for modification of my probation and BOTH were approved by the judge, even as the state's attorney was objecting. He made sure that all of the ducks were in a row, was clear and concise with what we were asking of the judge, and didn't waste the court's time with meaningless arguments. He was 110% honest with me and never gave me a feeling of false hope; like other attorneys do that lead you to believe that the world is all rainbows and sunshine. He explained both the pro's and the con's and made sure that we were prepared to achieve the best outcome but also gave me worst case scenarios. That is something that was greatly appreciated and speaks volumes to his character. I will not hesitate to contact Nick or his firm for any further legal assistance! Thank you Nick!

Great advice and outstanding service. I would recommend Mr. Warren and his partner to anyone. A matter of fact I even sent my sister to this firm and she is currently using them for a child support case. Unlike a lot of lawyers these two made me feel like I was human and did everything they could to help me.

I am currently dealing with an ongoing paternity issue with my ex fiancé. After receiving a consultation (with a fairly hefty fee) from another attorney I was left feeling scared and pressured to file against my ex. I decided to get a second opinion and came across AnnMarie on Thumbtack. I called her contact number, after hours (8:30pm) and left a message. TEN MINUTES later AnnMarie returned my call and consulted with me free of charge for an hour. She was highly educated in regards to my needs and questions and offered sound information. She listened patiently as I addressed my concerns and had answers readily available to my questions. AnnMarie was able to state Florida statutes to back up the information she was giving. A night and day difference from my previous consultation! She put my mind at ease and advised me as best as possible (without being my retained representative) how to best proceed. Although I have decided not to pursue legal action at this time, should I ever need legal services in the future I will definitely hire her as my personal attorney. Her commitment to help me on her own personal time, without me being a current client speaks volumes about her dedication and commitment to help others. I would highly recommend consulting with her for any of your family legal needs. Thank you so much AnnMarie!

Attorney Justice was thorough and detailed. Our first session lasted 2 hours and the time did not seem that long. Her fees were extremely fair and the follow up meeting was fast. I will follow up with a post evaluation after the case closes.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

  • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
  • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
  • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
  • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
  • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
  • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.
