Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: PLEASE CONTACT US DIRECTLY. NOT HERE. We really try hard not to simply take on the role of just "fixing things". Yes repairs and restoration is what we do and we're passionate about that but we really do try to connect with our clients. We want to try to get a little personality read from them, understand why this item is important to them, what they intend to do with it, what role does it or will it play in their lives. Sometimes it can lead to us offering suggestions that become pretty important but mainly it helps identify a person, a life, a place in this world with the otherwise inanimate object we are working with and that really helps keep our passion and enthusiasm driven and that certainly has a very positive effect on our physical work. We try to listen to the client as well as "listen" to the object itself. Let it speak to us before we just launch into it. Believe it or not, it helps. We try not to think of ourselves in just mechanical terms but more with artistic ideals. Which often is the very way the original creators of the item thought when making it too. The personal interaction with clients and items they really cherish. It's a somewhat unique place to be when you are given the keys to that relationship. We really enjoy that part of our work. It's very much a people job and less of an artifact job at least in our approach to it. When we are contacted and hired by an inanimate object we'll reconsider but until then it's real humans that invite us to work with them and that is the most important and enjoyable part of Brackett & Co.

Mr. Brackett restored an old rocking chair that I had kept in storage for years. Although the chair was basically falling apart and had layers of paint over stain (as well as broken/missing pieces, it had great sentimental value and I could not bring myself to discard it. Joshua was recommended to me by several people, so I contacted him to see what he could do. I received the chair back this morning and I could not be happier with the results!! Thank you Josh!! You rock!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Our clients are individuals with specific requests often needing services for their very unique items or treasures. Respectfully our pricing is normally tailored to our clients, their needs, and their unique artifacts. To begin a dialogue regarding the restoration process and their associated expenditures the very first thing we always need is information and photographs. Lots of information regarding the item, history, issues, & objectives. Several photos that will give us a visual understanding of the item, overview images as well as close ups demonstrating the issues to contend with. You are an individual with a unique artifact needing custom attention. Stock pricing would be asking you to fit into a preset which would be disrespectful of you and your items. We routinely find we are one of the if not the most affordable option for our clients and their needs.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Brackett & Co. is constantly researching both historic and modern techniques and developments in the multi-disciplinary restoration and conservation fields. We are proud members of The National Trust for Historic Preservation, The American Institution for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, and The High Museum of Art. We are routinely involved in continuing education programs. Our most recent studies include advancements through Harvard University and The University of Edinburgh.
