Introduction: In the first few minutes of a session, I'll get to know you (the student) and informally assess where the issues are and how I can help you. I ask good questions, that help me get to the point quickly. Recent tutoring and teaching experience have helped me refine this skill; Sometimes the issue is just a question of technique. Other times, it's a confidence issue because one little stumbling block has blossomed into a lot of doubt. Either way, I'll help you address and conquer the problem so you can excel. I love helping people. I could've spent a career in a cubicle making industrial systems more efficient, but instead, I've left that behind so I can make a difference in people's lives. I love the subjects I teach and enjoy sharing that with even the most reluctant "haters". Give me the opportunity, and your student who's saying "I hate ___" could be saying " ____ isn't so bad" in a month or two. You will be surprised!

Wonderful experience. Not only did he accomplish in an hour what my sons teacher hadn't been able to accomplish this whole school year, he was very accomodating and willing to help my son according to our schedule. He is very professional and is very comfortable tutoring and does it very well. He helped my son gain the confidence and knowledge he needed to finally get it and pass his test. I would definitely recommend his services.

I got an A in my college Algebra class. Bottom line, I would not have passed on my own and with Stephen's help not only did I pass but I was able to maintain my 4.0. He has an easy going approach and was willing to work with my level of understanding. Additionally he has a flexible schedule. This was critical. If I needed a last minute appointment or needed to move a session, Stephen was very accommodating. Highly recommended!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge an hourly rate based on where I live, and a lower rate for advance payment or online sessions. 15% off five hours paid in advance!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I talk with the student, getting them to articulate where they've had issues, what they're working on, and what they want to accomplish. I've found that having them try to explain what they're doing and why helps them know the terms and get more comfortable with what they hear in class and read in their textbooks. Confidence builds quickly when this process gets moving!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an industrial engineering degree with a minor in math. I had some great teachers in middle and high school who started me off right- most of the students I encounter just don't have that, so I am here to fill in the gaps and give from what was given to me. I've also worked in teaching and coaching roles and have refined my tutoring techniques to a pretty effective level.
