Hired on Thumbtack

On Tuesday, I hired them to mow, trim & remove leaves. Asked them to give me a quote to spread pine straw and mulch. Specifically told them that I was evaluating them as a new customer with the hope of getting a long term service established. They said that they would be there on Wednesday or Thursday and would call when they were on the way. No show on Wednesday or Thursday. I called on Friday and they said we were on the schedule for the day. No show on Friday. Monday they called to say that they were delayed on Friday but they would be there by the end of the Monday or first thing Tuesday at the latest. No show on Monday. No show on Tuesday. Late Tuesday afternoon they called to say that one of their mowers broke and they wouldn't be able to get to me today. In fact, they couldn't get to me at all this week. They even wanted to hire another firm to do the job instead but they would have to make some calls to find someone. I told them not to bother. I'd learned what I needed. I understand if equipment breaks down. But I don't understand why you can't figure out scheduling for nearly a week. I really don't understand the lack of communication, especially for a new client looking to establish a long term relationship. Disappointing but at least I know now before I spent any money with them.
Penny Lawns's reply
Hello Scott, We apologize for not being able to service your property. While we try to ensure that equipment failure, vehicle failure and an office manager moving on to bigger and better things won't affect onboarding new customers, they sometimes do; especially when they occur simultaneously. We were also unsure how long it would take to repair one of our service trucks we thought it necessary to temporarily suspend adding new customers, focus on our existing customers, until vehicles and equipment were fully functional. Again we apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

New Customers are asked to submit their contact information (email address & telephone number) as well as the address of the property in need of service. Our skilled technicians will then assess the property and the work requested and provide an accurate quote. Once you accept the quote your job will be scheduled for an agreed upon date. You can expect an email or text alert when the job is completed as well as an emailed bill/invoice with a link to our secure online payment center.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Your lawn care provider should consider the amount of sunlight your lawn receives, the type of grass, proper/preferred grass height, slope of your yard, etc. If your provider does not ask you about these things and more, they may not be the right person for the job.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Some questions you can ask that could save you time and money when talking to lawn care and landscaping professional about your project include: What do I really want? Do I have pictures or sketches of lawns that I like or do I want someone who will design and create my landscaping from scratch? What do I LIKE about my current lawn / landscaping? What do I want to CHANGE? What price range am I comfortable with? Keep your price range in mind and be flexible on your work order. Remember, additional work comes with additional cost and unforeseen or undisclosed issues with your lawn / landscape can push the price up.
