FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Generally, our rate is $60 per hour with a 4 hour minimum. This rate includes the provision of all necessary equipment including speakers, microphones, and lighting. If the venue has a sound system, the rate drops to $45 per hour with a 4 hour minimum. Lastly, there is a mileage fee of $0.55 per mile for travel over 30 miles. For events in excess of 70 miles away, the mileage fee is waived and a one night hotel stay is required to be paid by the customer. All fees are mutually agreed upon and listed in the contract prior to booking.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
About 7 years ago, my motorcycle club decided to sponsor a monthly event(party) as a money-making venture. Initially, we paid a DJ to perform each month. However, by the time we paid the DJ, our profits were cut in half. As a solution, I volunteered to DJ the next event. After all, I was an avid music lover that had played around with DJing as a hobby at home in the past. In anticipation of my first night, I practiced and practiced for 4 hours a day each day for the month leading up to the event. Though nervous, I turned in a performance good enough to have two guests ask for my business card. Of course I didn't have one so I gave them my full-time job card. I was hired by both and the rest is history. From that point forward, I've done weddings, birthday parties, corporate holiday parties, motorcycle anniversaries, etc.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently, we were privileged to perform at the Atlanta Hilton NE for the Scribbles book club's annual celebrity author dinner and party. The event required soft music (smooth jazz) to be played throughout the dinner and dramatic reading program to be followed by dance music for the rest of the evening. With a diverse guest list with attendees ranging in age from 25-75, we knew that satisfying, and engaging, all the guests during the dance party would prove to be a challenge. A diverse mix of music from the 60's to the present was played that included mixes of music across 4 decades. While breaking down for the night, several guests stopped by to state how much fun they had during the party. One such guest said, "I'm 71 years old and haven't partied this hard in 30 years. Can you make me a CD or two just like what you played during the party?" This guest was followed by a young lady in her late 20's and she asked for the exact same thing. It was at that moment that I realized the event was a resounding success and had my belief confirmed that performance creativity will satisfy ANY crowd.
