Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: The 10 Differences - 1. We specialize in entertainment for adult audiences. You can relax, knowing that Da Spin Doctor has earned the coveted Better Business Bureau accredited "A+" rating...the FIRST Hawaii DJ out of 42 to have this rating. 2. We create a CUSTOM music playlist for every event, so each performance is unique to your requests and theme. 3. We have an extensive 'fun to formal' costume wardrobe which we match to the theme of your event. 4. We take requests and dedications, so we bring along our ENTIRE 30,000 tune music library to every event - NOT just the same 80 tunes you hear over and over. 5. We have several scalable State-of-the-Art pro sound, video, & lighting systems, so we can set our rates according to your specific needs. For example, dinner music for 20 guests does not require our JBL 18" subwoffers, but Disco for 400 dancers does. 6. We respect and guard your privacy. We don't publish client names on our site. What happens at your event STAYS at your event with maximum privacy and discretion. But, we have lots of published reviews and fan mail from recent clients who have given permission to share their comments and we will be happy to share them with you in person. 7. We are old enough (and fortunate) to have lived through the musical decades we specialize in, so we KNOW the music of the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's right up to today's latest hits. Our primary mission is to share this GREAT music that we grew up with, with you and your guests. We LOVE what we do. 8. Professor Bob ALWAYS does a "clean" and classy show, suitable for all ages who enjoy the best music of our times. You and your guests will never be embarrassed by our music, attire, or show. 9. YOU ( NOT the DJ ) set your desired volume of the music, and the amount of talk / personality / games / events. (That's even in our contract because it's YOUR money !) 10. NO hard sell. NO high pressure. We don't try to be all things to all people in order to sell every gig. If we don't feel that we are precisely THE perfect match for your event, or if we are already booked, we will refer you to one of our trusted colleagues. Our service was started because at weddings and events we noticed that frequently younger Hip Hop & Rap DJs play music they like, and way too loud - which sends older guests scurrying outside or they go home early to escape the noise, concussion, and contemporary "music." Few were dancing. It seems the only ones having a good time at parties these days are the D.J. and a few soon-to-be hearing impaired teens. Hey, nothing wrong with that. That's good fun and very popular if you are a teen or a twenty-something... But...what about the REST of us? We created "Da Spin Doctor" ©® to do just the opposite - and for the rest of us who enjoy the music of our lives! DJ-ing started on the radio, and Professor Bob can take you "back to the future." We share the best music from the 1940's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, right up to today's most current hits. Da Spin Doctor plays it the way it was originally performed, and as loudly or as softly as YOU want it - before, during, and after your food & beverage service.

This was the first time to hire a DJ and it was for my daughter's 40th birthday! At the end of the night she personally came up to tell the DJ that he was "Awesome!!" I absolutely agree! We had a fantastic event and even the Mother In Law told me, "the DJ just made the party"! Thank you so much and we will highly recommend him anytime!

DJ

Dr. Bob was hired for my daughter's wedding because I understood the need for professional music management during our event. I was not only pleased but would say his planning of the mood, announcements and his obvious pleasure handling the music was outstanding, I couldn't have expected a better night! Bob has the music soft and welcoming at the beginning of the event, perfect for enjoying our meal during the buffet time and when everyone was ready to party, he played non stop music, a great selection and had every one up and enjoying. Thank you sincerely! You helped make a precious night just the best!

DJ

Disappointed. I hired Professor Bob for a graduation party and was very specific that I did not want to have any "bump and grind" or dirty music. Please don't misunderstand, I am not against music with swear words although I did ask for radio edits (its more about the subject of the song) but I had lots of little kids at the party and I did not want them to hear inappropriate songs. Well, I found out after the party that a very inappropriate song was played (something about to the window and to the wall and balls) my family was looking for me to cut the song but I guess I was in the kitchen working with the caterer. Needless to say that was embarrassing! The DJ also argued with me when I asked him to cut Apple Bottom Jeans insisting it was the song my daughter requested (showing me the paper with my email of requests). I said that the song she asked for was Get Low by DJ Snake and he insisted that Apple Bottom Jeans was that song and would not cut the song. DJ made a big deal when we signed with him about the fact that only one person can be designated to say if a song was acceptable or not and could cut that song and that person was me. Well that did not work out at all- he didn't cut the song when I asked.. DJ announced some of these songs as my daughters favorites and she had not even heard of the window/wall song before that night and did not like Apple Bottom Jeans but wanted to hear DJ Snake. His set up was good and professional looking and his wife did a good job of engaging the little ones on the dance floor. If you want someone who will actually listen to you about what you want find someone else. If you are open to anything and do not care what is played then he is your guy. Dawn K.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Quality costs more - it always does. That's just common sense. Chevy or Cadillac? Rolex or Timex? They both do precisely the same thing, so why would anyone ever buy a Rolex? The answer is QUALITY. The most common ways to cut DJ rates is to use old, substandard, cheap, non-professional, or used equipment, or to hire inexperienced high school or college students as DJs. Some 'budget' DJs have no insurance, unreliable transportation, no backup equipment, or illegal music copies. Our LEGAL licensed music is updated every month by Prime Cuts, a professional DJ music service.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Meet in person !!!!!!!!! Never turn 3 or 4 hours of your event over to a complete stranger whom you have never met. There are no licenses required for DJs, so literally anyone can claim they are one. The time to discover your entertainer's personality is before, not during your party. Never ever EVER book a DJ over a web site. Would you buy a used car sight unseen?

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Our unique personal qualifications: 12 years musical training and performance, 1st chair "Concert Master" Bachelor's degree in Communications Master's degree in Business Administration 7 years of professional theater experience including extensive directing, staging, stage management, sound, and lighting design in more than 2200 live theater performances 23 years of University level teaching experience in lighting, camera, audio, directing, script writing, audio visual engineering, location and studio production 43 years in professional show business including five radio stations and four TV stations A weekly S. California radio audience in excess of 250,000 listeners Over 40+ years in show business, we have NEVER missed a performance!
