FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Corporate events such as: awards ceremonies, holiday parties, event wrap-up festivities, trade shows, open house, product launches, fund raisers, client appreciation parties, food and wine tastings, etc. Private events such as: wedding receptions, holiday and special occasions.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

One of the biggest questions is how much is a fair amount to pay for music. There are many factors that can affect the cost of music. A good starting point is what do you make? Let's say you make X per hour. Remember that the cost to your employer is really 2X because there is unemployment insurance, health insurance, sick leave, vacations etc. that are wrapped into the cost of paying for you. In the case of a musician they have to pay for all those things themselves, purchase and maintain their own equipment and provide transportation and the time to get to the performance. Don't be suprised if a musician appears to be asking more than twice what you earn per hour and then some. It's really not as much as you think and believe me they're not getting rich at your expense. There's a musician joke that sort of sums it up. What happens when a muscian wins a million dollars? Nothing, they just keep performing until they're broke again.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Being a musician is very rewarding but it requires a lot of time. Maintaining equipment, maintaining skills, learning new material are time spent that the client doesn't see or realize. Many people believe that some poeple are just born musicians. That's not true. Musicians are people with a keen interest in music that makes the process of learning music more enjoyable than the average person. However, enjoyable or not it still requires an incredible amout of time and energy to cultivate musical skills. No one is born with musical skills everyone must learn them. It isn't easy for anyone even those that are considered gifted have to work hard at the profession.
