Our experience with Michelle, as she helped us design and build our new kitchen in Dubuque, Iowa, was nothing short of spectacular. Our kitchen space began with a dirt floor (there being no basement under that room), bare brick walls, and ceiling joists overhead. Michelle listened carefully to our needs and then designed a space that reflected both them and accepted kitchen design practices and criteria. Because of her training as an interior designer and her background in construction, she was able to communicate effectively not only with us, but also with various vendors and contractors. She made invaluable suggestions regarding colors, appliances, counter-tops, cabinets, flooring and helped with their selection, ordering, and installation. She was very generous in being available to answer our questions and in giving advice on various aspects of the installation process. The project, from start to finish, took the better part of the Summer. Michelle was always on time, and the quality of the finished product is excellent. It is the kitchen of my wife's dreams! We will always be grateful to Michelle for her ability as a very good listener, for her wide-ranging expertise, and generosity of time and advice.

I have an extensive background in kitchen and bath design. For residential design these are the more complex rooms to design. I enjoy a challenge!

Make sure they listen to what your needs are. A designer should reflect their clients personality in their design.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
There is a difference between Interior Decorators and Interior Designers. An Interior Designer can be looked at as an Interior Architect. They have the education and understand the principals and elements of design.
