FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My rule of thumb is $50.00 an hour. If the client does extensive revisions/rework, the rate is the same. Should it be minor changes, ie typos, I usually let those be gratis. I can bid piece work, with the rate of my hourly rate X total hours expected, and a 30% of that added on for any unforeseen gremlins. Expected payment is 50% down, non-refundable, with the remainder due at time of delivery of drawings. Revision work rates for piece work are as stated above, $50.00 an hour. If plotting is required by Straight Line, that can be handled at the price required by the off site contractor plus a 10% of print cost added on for handling. Shipping of plots, prints or data CDs will be extra if outside the Idaho Falls area.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Not as much as I'd like. Most of my "continuing education" is on the job.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I always liked to draw as a kid. I also loved to build model kits. As I got older, I took college entrance exams, and one of the careers they said I might be good at was drafting. Combining my two "loves" of drawing and model building seemed a good way to go...and it has been.
