I feel that I must bring to your attention the outstanding customer service I receive by your representative, Mickey Owano. I am, of course, very delighted to have had the pleasure of having Mr. Owano install my water heater. His professional and courteous attitude, expert knowledge, and patience in handling my specific issues were very important to my complete customer satisfaction. He went beyond his duties and brought to my attention a previous problem with a second water heater. He explained that the T&P relief valve was installed to short of code and the venting cap was not secured properly. After completing his installation of the new water heater, he went ahead and did the repair on the second unit on his own. I was completely shocked that he would do something as generous. Please know that your employee was extraordinary in his duties as a plumber, and as a thoughtful individual. This is one less concern for me and I am deeply appreciative of his assistance and support. While I know that Tritan Plumbing is renowned for the customer service it provides, I feel like Mr. Owano treated my affairs with the utmost importance.

Stayed home from work as I expected him. Calls me 30 mins to an hour before expected arrival and says he can’t come until next week. Need this to be done ASAP and now have to start all over with new contractors. Not happy primarily because I stayed home from work to accommodate his arrival.

Oscar did a terrific job with servicing and repairing our irrigation system -- we recently purchased a home with a lawn irrigation system, but we have never had a home with one and didn't know to operate it, or if the system was even functional/operational. Oscar showed up on a Saturday afternoon took the time to look over the entire system and pointed out all of the issues he found. He not only noted the issues that needed immediate attention, but also issues that will likely need attention in the future/next season. He was very fast, professional, and performed the service and repairs with very high quality. I will definitely use him again for all of my home sprinkler repair and servicing needs. Thank you again Oscar for all you do and look forward to working with you again! -Dan-

Mark contacted me immediately upon receiving the quote request, we discussed the issues with my sprinkler system (late shut down) and set times for possible windows to carry out project (weather-dependent). I received a text the morning of the day he said he was coming and was here on the spot. All repairs/services performed, at original quoted price, great transaction.

Pedrozas was the only one to respond. I was disappointed with the responses from the other suggested contractors from thumbtack. I most likely WILL NOT use Thumbtack again.

Conserva came and shortened the amount of stations on my system to conserve water energy, something the previous irrigation company never recommended after 20+ years of being a loyal customer.

T.R. Scapes came in to bid only one small portion of work in my yard. However, due to the success of that work, I hired them to grade the whole yard, and install a dry riverbed and a water drainage feature at the back of the property. After twenty years of tolerating the "lake" caused by landscaping mistakes on adjacent properties, the drainage feature they installed handled the very heavy rains since then. There isn’t a single puddle in the yard. The village engineer was also extremely pleased with the final results.

I wanted to express our satisfaction with all the work your team did at our house last week. Given the amount of work that needed completion, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how quickly and professionally it was performed. Your crew was prompt, courteous and extremely hard-working. I have not had such a positive experience with contractors over the years. Needless to say, we will recommend you to our friends and neighbors, as well as call you for future work. Once again, thanks for the great job.

Donnell and his team were some of the best professionals I have ever dealt with when it comes to contracting. Not only did they let you know the progress every step of the way but they made sure you were completely happy with the results. They were professional and did highly quality work on my basement. It went from looking like a dungeon to a beautiful space. They also did something that I see very few contractors do and that is clean up after themselves each time they were here instead of just waiting until after the job was done. It was nice to go to the basement everyday and be able to move around because they have cleaned everything well. That is super convenient and great since we are still living here while the work is being done. I would recommend them in a second for not only any future work for myself but for others. It's quality and professionalism at a great price --Ernst Quinnton Lamothe Jr.

Adamantium did a great job and was very impressed to their willingness to 'please' the customer. I am a commercial Project Manager and deal with union contractors on a daily basis; Chris and his team are top notch and have that 'old school' approach of willing to go the extra mile. Chris and his crew performed the concrete removal, dirt grading and wood beam removal project we had been needing done for some time. Their price was fair and they did it timely. Thanks Adamantium!

I have worked with many contractors in my many years of owning a home. My working with David; Strictly Stone, was by far the best experience I have had. From start to finish my project went seamless. The workers were on time, professional and left the job site very clean. I very seldom post my experiences but I felt that this one deserved a two thumbs up....it is rare to find a company that does what they say, do it well and stands behind their work. Kudos to David and his crew.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
