FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My prices are not complicated...everything is very straight forward. For the most part my prices run very close to other local shops that are my competition. As I stated earlier, wedding cakes start at $2.25 per serving. My most common cake is probably a filled half sheet which is $35.00. Full sheet filled $60.00. Quarter sheet filled $21.00-$23.00. I also have all sizes in between. When you add complicated artwork it does increase the price some but usually not more than $10.00 additional.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
You must always stay abreast of your profession....in any profession if you want to stay at the top you must continue to learn. Last year I went to Cake Camp in Henderson, Nevada to hone my sugar skills and learn better blown sugar techniques.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I always loved to cook, back in the 80's I worked for a company that closed. When my union gave me a list of participating providers...a bakery was on the list. I thought, " that sounds like fun"...and it is but little did I know it is really a hard job...long hours on your feet.
