FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to understand the customers need and evaluate if that's what he actually needs. Also, like to establish some personalized touch. Then provide my charge and also educate the client on what should be expected as we move along the process.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I am an IT Database Professional by trade (been in consulting: Accenture ever since 2010 at a Project Lead level: my specialty is integrating major databases for major companies due to customer transformation initiative or maybe a big merger. Yes! Nothing to do with fixing computers). I was in Consulting in 2008-2009 and with the huge banking downturn, the consulting firm that had majority of its clients as banks, laid me off. Hence, a professional who loves to serve customers right, hungry to make more than unemployment checks and to make a bright future, took mom's advice "You are super good at fixing computers. Why don't you go out in the neighborhood and see if anyone needs help?" Soon, I was the guy knocking on doors asking for 2 things: 1. Do you, your friend or someone in your family work in an IT field who can refer me for a job? I am your neighbor. (I got 1 interview with US Cellular that way). 2. I fix computers as my business. Would you be needing help? But it all started many years ago. 2007 is when I immigrated to this country and 2008 is when I got my first computer. First software I ever installed was "Moto Racer 3.0" on Windows 98. I was super excited. I then someone managed to crash my computer twice. Slowly I started to somehow learn. I am still unsure how I learnt this thing.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Overall, there is a resonating theme amongst computer problems most customers have, however, there are just multiple variations of each. The most common that I encounter are: 1. Viruses 2. System Crash (hard drive failure especially on laptops) 3. Screen blank (on Toshiba, HP and Sony laptops) 4. System heating up too much (HP and Toshiba mainly) 5. System too slow #1: could be solved to major extent by introspecting our own internet behavior #5: happens on all Windows system ultimately (get a mac if you want to run away from this) and to some extent/many times so it happens due to #1 #3 & #4: Spend couple more and get a DELL ! Trust me you will sleep in peace. #2: nature of fragile things like hard drive in a portable unit like a laptop. Keep a backup if your data is that important. Time and again, I see customers almost in tears because they have lost all their pictures, videos, etc. and no backup :-(
