Aside from a simple real estate closing nine years ago, I hadn't had a need for an attorney until this year when it became painfully clear that I needed to file Chapter 7. I found Dean on Thumbtack and coincidentally, he happened to be in my neighborhood which made meeting with him very convenient. From my first call to Dean, he immediately put me at ease and thoroughly explained the process from start to finish and gave me advice even though I hadn't even hired him yet. Based on his knowledge, experience, and professionalism I decided to hire him to handle my case. At our first meeting he again explained the process to ensure I understood it, filled out the necessary paperwork, and advised what I need to submit in order to proceed. From there it was just a matter of letting the case move thru the court system and between Dean and his competent staff, I always knew what was happening and was always provided with an accurate timeline of milestones. Dean promptly returned emails and phone calls which is always a true indicator of dedication and commitment in my book. My debts were recently discharged and Dean and his staff have continued to assist me with tying up some loose ends to ensure that I'm on the right path. I feel very fortunate to have found Dean and because of his vast legal experience, I wouldn't hesitate to engage him going forward should I be in need of legal counsel.

I initially consulted Michael about issues I was having with present counsel. He never spoke negatively about the attorney that I found myself having to deal with. He was understanding compassionate and sincere. Unfortunately I didn't get an opportunity to work with him directly but I would highly recommend him to anyone that wants an honest straightforward and easy on the eyes kind of an attorney. If I have future legal matters I will definitely be calling Michael.

I received numerous letters from attorneys asking for my business. I changed my phone number do to automated help lines calling and then putting me on hold while I waited for the next available operator to see if my case qualified. I used Thumbtack to do my own investigation and I am confident in the choice I made to hire a law firm with an attorney and staff local to assist me when I need help!

Attorney Nenye Uche represented me on a DUI charge and a Driving on a Suspended License charge that I received due to the DUI. I was completely overwhelmed during this process because this is the first time and the most serious thing I've ever had to deal with. Mr Uche assured me the entire time of how confident he was in beating this case. He was constantly in contact with me on any changes or updates in our case. He has ALOT of good relationships inside and outside the courtroom which puts him above every other lawyer. He ended up getting me a Not Guilty on my DUI charge and I received only supervision on my suspension case, which I was told by other lawyers "that he performed a miracle because that never happens". I fully recommend Attorney Uche for any legal needs you might have.

Amazing service! I will admit I was a bit skeptical since his fees are only $100 to be an attorney for a sale of a home, but he came through 100%. He handled everything for me while I was out of state. I had no worries. Any questions I had he answered expeditiously!!! Definitely recommend Frank for anyone looking for a no nonsense attorney.

Tom has been my trusted legal consult for the past year, and he has also provided service within my extended family as well. You will not find a more authentic, caring and hard-working personal injury lawyer in Chicago. He is an unbelievably unique attorney and person, as he treats you and your situation as he would his own family. He has provided the best legal advice-and most importantly; he returned all calls and emails personally in the timeliest fashion. Tom went into law to help people, and the second you meet him, you will know that you are in the right hands. He is smart, strong and attentive. He works harder than any other lawyer I have ever met. He has been running a non-profit for at-risk youth in Chicago for 25 years and has made a vast difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate-because this is who he is-a person who cares about everyone who comes into his life, and this includes how he treats his clients. He offers a free consultation and makes the time to handle everything on a personal basis. If you need a lawyer, you will be in the best hands for representation.

We called around for attorneys and was given the brush off, no one wanted to discuss my husbands case. Bart Beals has taken a special interest and walked us through every step of the way of a complicated legal system. There should be more attorneys like him.

Without Mr.siwek myself and my family would have never been able to make it through this 2year court case that we did not think could have been so difficult. Wit Mr. Siwek on our side it was as pleasant a process as he could possibly make it answering countless questions at any time we had one, do yourself a favor and have this man help you as he has helped us.

This man is by far the best attorney Ive ever worked with; And that's really saying something lol. I have over a dozen arrests, three felony convictions for possession and disorderly conduct, plus a prior dui and domestic conviction. The dui of which I was shamefully still on supervision for when I was arrested by the Streamwood police dept for dui and possession of paraphenilia and a controlled substance. The overly-high priced hoity-toity attorneys didnt even want to take my dui and possession case as they viewed it as unwinnable. Not only did Ron charge me thousands less than those guys wanted, but he won this supposedly "unwinnable" case. He treated me with respect, he was polite to my family members, and he leveled with me as opposed to trying to sell me dreams. He worked his tail off for me, took the case to trial for no additional fee, and won the case with flying colors. Because of my backgroud, I was facing a maximum of 8 years in prison and my drivers license was to be revoked for 3 years. Not only am I a free man today with zero new convictions, but I also got my license back. Very few atttorneys could have pulled off what he did, let alone for the bargain price he gave me. I highly recommend this man to anyone that finds themselves in trouble and needing legal representation. Out of all the attorneys Ive worked with over the years, it would be foolish to ever hire anybody but him.

My employment ended after 10 years and I could not find employment. I am thankful I learned of Attorney Leeders. I was searching through the internet for bankruptcy attorneys. I met with some attorneys then I met with Attorney Leeders and I knew instantly he was the right choice to represent me. I filed a Chapter 13 and I am currently almost finished paying all my debts. Attorney Leeders was there all the way with me providing support and answering all my questions. The bankruptcy was a success. He knows the law to be able to provide the best help possible. If I would have went with one of the other attorneys I would not have receive the help that I have received with Attorney Leeders. I am very grateful for you Attorney Leeders. Thank you for being there!

I don't normally take the time to write a review (unless it was a horrible experience), but I found James to be an outstanding attorney. I found James through a co-worker and he represented me during my first home sale after I had already moved out of state. From the very start, he was very responsive. When I left him a message at 9:00p, he called me back right away. Throughout the sale, he responded very quickly, explained everything in great detail, and got involved in everything. The sale process was challenging due to issues I had with the buyer during inspection, but James was very professional and knowledgeable on how to handle this difficult situation. Ultimately, he was able to salvage the sale for me. Honestly, if I didn't have James, I wouldn't have sold my home. I'm very thankful for what James did and I highly recommend him for anyone in need of an attorney specializing in residential property.

barry is a very good attorney. he was my attorney for my court case that just ended and did a very fine job. when I first met barry he gave me a free consultation about my situation and what his approach would be. he accepted a payment plan as I didn't have all of the money upfront. barry has a great relationship with many judges and states attorneys and they all respect him, he is a educated attorney and full of knowledge. barry was on time for every court date, and talked about a plan of action before each court appearance .Barry footlick is the best. gets the job done right the first time and is very affordable. Highly recommended .

I cannot more highly recommend business and technology attorney Jacki Petrovic. I met Jacki while I was working on a project to bridge gaps in my company’s corporate technology contracts. I was very impressed with Jacki’s wealth of knowledge in business and information technology law. She understands how technology applies in the context of business operations and is excellent at identifying the issues that will matter to the business. Jacki leverages many years of experience in negotiating and assisting clients in achieving favorable contractual relationships and she takes a particular interest in helping clients achieve their goals while protecting their legal interests. Jacki also has an amazing ability to make all of her clients feel that they are a priority and she is great at multitasking to quickly deliver excellent quality work. I have worked with her for many years and anytime I get a call from a potential client needing a lawyer for a business or technology matter, Jacki is at the top of my list of recommendations.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.
