She did a great job on tutoring my wife in academic English. We can only recommend her. She is not a nativ borne, however her language is more sophisticated, than if she were. Maybe that's also why she is so good at teaching. She was the best tutor we have had. Thanks again

Thank you very much for your review. It is not very often that a student is as hard-working as your wife. All the best of luck, Marina.

Granush A. Hi, my name is Granush. I speak Armenian, German, Russian and English. I learnt English with Marina for almost a year. I was already fluent but wanted to reach near-native proficiency. Marina’s classes were really efficient and very well-organized. I liked them a lot. Marina is a motivating teacher. She always gave me a lot of speaking practice. We also worked on academic reading and writing and discussed academic articles. I am totally happy with the results of my work with Marina.
Marina's reply
Hi Granush, thank you for your review. I wish you all the best in your future career. Marina

I had a few lessons with Marina, to improve my written English. My English is very advanced but I needed help with writing. She was extraordinary at the job, she has a great feeling for the language.

Sergey S. My name is Sergey. My company hired Marina for online classes in conversation English. We are IT specialists and did not have much of a real-life conversation in English before classes with Marina. The classes were great, we had a lot of fun and improved a lot. We had no problem talking to customers in English at the technical exhibition afterwards.
Marina's reply
I enjoyed working with you, guys, too.

Hi! I am Irina V. Nikitina, Associate Professor at the School of Interpreting and Translation of the State Linguistics University of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. Extensively working in the field of translation and interpreting, I have engaged Marina Sokolova in many translation projects as a freelance translator and editor in both Russian and English. Marina has excellent qualifications required for the job. With MA in Second Language Studies (USA) and English Language Pedagogy (UK), as well as such well-established certificates as CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teacher for Adults), Current Trends in Theory and Practice of Language Teaching, she makes a truly valuable contribution to a solid team of translators that I closely cooperate with. In every project Marina has been part of or has lead, she has demonstrated a set of qualities that are truly valuable for a professional: authentic and idiomatic language, broad outlooks, inquisitiveness, accuracy, commitment to deadlines, meticulousness, flexibility and responsiveness. Marina has deep knowledge and wide experience in the following areas: business correspondence, general documentation, academic, fiction. Her translations are always proofread and never require double check. I frequently address Marina to get her expert opinion on various linguistic matters both in Russian and English and find her approach to the job of translation and editing truly passionate.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My price varies from $25 to $50 per hour depending on the amount of work needed. All the prices are negotiable and I give discounts for long-term projects.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I offer a free 30 minute-trial lesson. Then we talk and I try to figure out what learning strategies a student is most comfortable with. If at the end of this conversation I am not sure about the student's level of proficiency in the language I may ask her/him to do a little placement test for me.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

MA in Second Language Studies, USA Language Pedagogy training, UK BA in pre-school teaching.
